Also if he could speak English, it wouldn't be in an American accent. If this isn't some simulation or something like that, they definitely made a mistake there
It wasn't a quick change if it's genuine, it took place over the course of the entire season. Also we don't know if the change is genuine or if it's just so he can get into the Good Place.
If Michael's theory is right he saves billions of people from literal hell so at least by the scoring system he's gotta be in
I'm more concerned by what he is, by his nature is it possible that he's good? Him wanting to redo their entire process for millions of humans is inherently good, but more than that its chaotic, shifting a process that's been in place since the beginning of time while also using underhanded means to establish a new process. He might be wrong, him meddling leaves more chance that he is, if he's right it has a lot of consequences. There are a lot of complex questions and answers.
I don't know that it's inherently good if he's doing it for selfish reasons (he wants to escape punishment in the Bad Place). I think he genuinely wants to help, personally, but his motives for doing so are still an open question. Either way, I think the fact that it's presenting such complex questions and sparking such discussion is the sign of a really great show!
I question whether he's designed to be able to want to help, he is a being created to torture, I feel like its more complex than he liked humans and changed, and I think his nature will come in to play in a big way if the rest of the cast spends a season doing a reboot on earth. Does this mean redemption for the other demons is possible? Torturing bad people is not a bad thing to do in a system that accurately assesses how bad they are. But if the system is wrong, their torture is ethically questionable.
I think he's designed to be selfish, above all else. Which is why I think his desire to help still makes sense even if he hasn't actually changed for the better. As for whether he's really good or not, that's still an open question in my mind. The issue of whether the system is actually flawed or not will hopefully be something they address next season. I don't believe they'll just drop that thread, Schur and his team have demonstrated a willingness to tease out the complex questions the show raises and develop them so I don't think that's something they'd pass up. Plus, Michael needs to have something to do all season aside from meddle in the simulation every so often, so that factoring into his storyline would make sense.
I feel like we all thought Eleanor was inherently selfish but she's the one with the biggest capacity to change, I don't know how it is for Michael not being human, what makes us grow as people is mysterious and I don't know if demons can do that too
As far as the whole chidi french thing, is it possible that all 4 of them are in different simulations, so maybe that's not the real chidi?
Between The Leftovers, Lost, and the Good Place, Australia seems like the place to go for uncovering the truths of the universe.
something felt a bit off to me about the finale. Maybe it was just trying to cram too much plot development into 22 minutes. But there wasn't the same aura of confidence that the show knows exactly what its doing. Felt more "Well, we want a third season and this will probably give us our best avenue" Still think this show absolutely can nail season 3 as well. But I worry it also might start to go off the rails.
It was amazing to see Sam Malone in action again, as a celestial demon no less. I'm so excited to see what the other three got up to in the timeframe that we saw Eleanor back on Earth(?)/simulation Earth(?).
Man that's a disappointing to hear, I love the dude. It makes me happy when Schur brings in people from his previous shows. Being a comedy, I don't expect an oscar-worthy performance lol I mean, the actor who plays Tahani doesn't even have acting experience and I think she would be pretty bad in a "serious" role
I do like how they got around the timeline problem of their jokes having to be stuck with 2016 references. Now even if they send them all back to the bad place/good place at least the jokes can be up to date!
