I'm not surprised, but it's ridiculous that white people think being in a bus crash excuses racism and Ableism. The guy from CA having allegations against him doesn't excuse the Ableism either.
People can simultaneously have been in a life-threatening bus crash and deserve sympathy for that while being rightly called out for ableism/racism/homophobia. These two things don't cancel each other out and the fact I've seen people handwave this because of the accident is deplorable.
I think these sort of people would just find anything to excuse it. Like if there wasn't the accident they'd find something else.
