I get it. Well, to me it was all the better to just get into some more random thoughts and e.g. stuff about living on tour with a condition, getting married young etc. - I've already heard so much about TGUK and their legacy on podcasts that it didn't feel like not enough about it all in the book. Also, I saw a reel about that exactly - meaning, Mass Pike as a more popular single - not sure if it would have been anywhere near that simple. But a cool thought.

Ps. The podcast with Julio from ATAL is called This Was The Scene, they definitely touch upon a lot from the indie/emo punk scene (not sure if I remember correctly if TGUK was mentioned, but Saves the Day for sure), it was just weird to me that Julio tried to uphold to that old, juvenile idea like they were so different from that whole scene, but it seemed like he did know a lot about it and did follow/respect a lot of the music

Won't need to buy a bootleg shirt. The band is selling the real one now

    Yes, it's me

I listened to the podcast with Julio. I get what he was saying that they were lumped into a genre they didn't really belong in, but at the same time I think that genre at that time was such a wide spectrum that its hard to say what emo even was back then (or even now).

But that happens a lot. Pearl Jam gets lumped in with Nirvana and Alice In Chains, Deftones get lumped in with Korn and Limp Bizkit, Coheed and Cambria is touring with Hot Water Music and Thrice. Are Foo Fighters really all that different from No Use for a Name or Face to Face? If Avril Lavigne's first album came out on Drive-Thru records it would have had a completely different response.

It's all industry packaging. As Tall As Lions probably would have done better touring with contemporary top-40 alternative bands than doing Warped Tour.

100%! Pretty cool to speculate on "what could have been" (same as with the success of TGUK had they used a certain song as a single etc.), but at the same time we won't know for sure - to my mind they were so good BECAUSE they were lumped in with that scene and found themselves as the odd ones out.

I think Julio is only slightly older than me and we might have had some affection for a lot of the the same music; somehow branched out later on, but well - even taking a look at Triple Crown itself - I loved Hot Rod Circuit, but then besides ATAL came acts like The Dear Hunter, From Indian Lakes, Foxing, Moving Mountains, I think if they had gone on for a bit longer they might have seen a lot more possibilites. No need to scoff at the Warped Tour era ;d (I had a couple more thoughts on that whole episode, but don't wanna thoroughly derail the thread)

It's not the audience to be underestimated btw, but the circumstances (luck and so on)

Ps. oh and to tie it up with the original subject, I forgot that they actually talked about Matt's book in that episode hahah (!) - the conversation was exactly the same as above. To me the difference is that Matt Pryor makes fun of a lot of things, but always champions a lot of his peers and friends on the other hand

Man, Triple Crown was the best label going for a few years there. Too bad they shut down.

  7. Excited to see that live tomorrow.

Also, weird seeing Rob play a Grabber/Ripper on stage. Almost certain I've only ever seen him with a P Bass.

    Well, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy

Also weird seeing Jim and Matt with Jazzmasters. I only recall Matt using his Gretsch and Jim using his Tele Deluxe
