After learning about the term/genre the other day, I figured out... There Are Rules was The Get Up Kids' attempt at an Indie Sleaze album The album makes so much more sense in that context. It's probably the album I listen to the most. I love them all though.
That one really feels like they were making an era-appropriate album. Like, I get vibes of 2010’s contemporary indie bands on that album
I re listened to the original last night, gonna check this one out ASAP too. Also gonna listen to all NewAms again soon, it's been a while
I think it's only a matter of time for On A Wire on vinyl to be hard to find. Unless a new pressing comes out. Newbury sold out of both their pressings. If you don't have On A Wire on vinyl, I suggest you pick it up soon. Here are a few places that have it: Vagrant Records -2016 Pressing on Maroon Vinyl - Limited to 600 copies Hassle Records - UK/EU pressing on Apple red / Canary vinyl limited to just 500 copies
Went to the final STWHA 25-year show last night in Pomona and god damn it was good. Band was on point. Matt and Jim both sounded great. House was packed with an enthusiastic crowd and there wasn’t a single moment were people weren’t singing along. Such a great night. That album is an all-timer for me. I’m so glad I could see it front to back
someone please go because I'd be interested to know what the setlist would be like for this performance I definitely expect them to do The Advocate
new blog from Matt from his substack has a lot of Get Up Kids insight on it. I'll quote some of it and put it in spoiler tags
Went to a show for the On A Wire tour and even then the crowd was unruly. Some guy next to me kept shouting out, "play the old shit!"
It’s sad to hear how they felt about touring on There Are Rules. I loved that album but it certainly was a departure.
The way he frames firing James makes it sound like the other guys weren't necessarily on board with the decision. Curious if that's the case or if just worded poorly here.
I also kind of read it that way. Not that it’s any of our business, but I’m still curious as to what happened. He seemed to be fired super abruptly and the announcements of it were really ominous
That's what I always assumed he was kicked out for, and the substack makes me wonder if it was something else, especially if it created turmoil between Matt and Jim/ The Pope's. Either way, the loss of James hasn't been felt in the live shows at all.
