    I don't fit in with y'all :tear:

Guilt Show is my least favorite album (I still enjoy it a ton though). Out of all the Get Up Kids albums, I feel it's lyrically weaker than the other 5 full length albums.

No Jim Suptic-led songs on Guilt Show either. On a recent podcast (it's on spotify), Jim said that the Blackpool Lights song "Blue Skies" was meant to be on Guilt Show, but the band voted no (even though the Get Up Kids' manager at the time felt that it should have even been the first single from Guilt Show).

Kicker is their best EP. The lyrics are as personal as they get for the band and kind of "meta" in a sense. Jim told me he wrote "I'm Sorry" for his wife and children (this was at the Cleveland Four Minute Mile 20th anniversary show I went to, one of my best concert experiences ever).

Problems is their strongest album since Four Minute Mile and Something To Write Home About.

I LOVE There Are Rules. On A Wire has some really great songs on it, but the weird ones are good too.

Guilt Show is great, but best is a wild take to see 4 or 5 people instantly make. They have two other basically perfect albums imo, GS has always felt a little spotty to me. Would support the idea that Martyr Me and How Long is Too Long? are the band at the peak of their powers, though.

Guilt Show is the album that got me into the band, so it'll always have a solid place in my heart.

I think Guilt Show is their strongest album from a production standpoint and a good balance of their more experimental side and pop side, but Something to Write Home About has the nostalgia factor so I get why that's people's pick.

I revisit Guilt Show more than all of the other records.

Guilt Show was what solidified my love for them after a few years of confusing some of their early tracks with other bands I had downloaded off of p2p while searching for "emo" or "punk rock" hahh! It is definitely my favorite from them, and I used to think it is their best, until not so long ago when I actually stopped to think there are no Jim Suptic songs on it! Which, as it shows, I was ok with - especially getting that awesome Blackpool Lights album (took me some time to appreciate it more too), but I just feel bad naming it their best for this very reason. I was curious what was the case with him not singing too much back then, so thanks for at least some of the background for the era!

Ps. and well, Kicker EP is their strongest material, I think, perfect cover artwork as well

Just played "Blue Skies" again (though I've been revisiting the whole Blackpool Lights album A LOT these past few months) - if it was indeed intended to be a TGUK song, then I can't imagine any reasons for not including it, other than band's personal turmoil - after listening to some of the podcasts from them it could seem possible too - thus I'm sure the band can have a different point of view on the GS era, but I'm so glad they grew past it later

Yeah, as an old guy who got into them at the release of STWHA, I'd count Guilt Show as my favorite as well. I feel like the incredible Pope brothers rhythm section really shines the most on it, especially on songs like How Long is Too Long. There's a melancholy that comes through on songs like that and Sympathy that definitely ring true from where the band was at during that time.

And, yeah, thankful for the Blackpool Lights album as well. Really stoked to have the vinyl of that one, with the great bonus track, The Last Place, which is actually one of my favorites on the record.

You should try it, I had definitely been a bit skeptical around 2006 when it came out and I saw it on ap.net (hahh), but I came back to it around the Kicker EP release, and it has got some amazing songs on it too

  12. Yeah, this is what seals it for me. Rob especially is on fire on that whole album.

I have a very distinct memory of the first time I heard Spoon, thinking how much the bass playing on Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga reminded me of Guilt Show, and how delighted I was to find out that it was also Rob on that album.

There is such a sincerity in the lyrics to Problems that I don't hear in Guilt Show.

Guilt Show feels like they were trying to piece together a pop record, especially going off of the demos. The songs just don't come across as relatable as on other TGUK albums, but they all sound good. Some of the lyrics felt forced to me, but I dont know, I may be overthinking it.

Problems is so transparent when touching on the relationships, friendships, and families in Jim and Matt's adult lives, and the songs are extremely relatable. The Advocate is a beautiful freaking song.

I’d imagine that album probably isn’t relatable if you’ve never been divorced tbh

It is also my favorite TGUK record as I’m sure I’ve stated in this thread a few times.
