    Final answers.

Divorce wins over Spirit of Jazz due to Spirit of Jazz's association with American Slang and DSCC who have no business beating Blue Jeans or Backseat ;-p

Here's Looking At You Kid wins over Great Expectations cause #teamslowerballads

"The Backseat" is THE Gaslight song. I'm going to be very mad at all of you if it loses to something that's not even upper half of American Slang. And I've been championing AS songs in this thread!

I hope "Mae" wins. I love "Meet Me By the River's Edge," but "Mae" is one of the songs in their catalog that feels totally singular and unique to me.

I've heard stories that Gaslight wanted Mae to be the opening song off Handwritten but got talked out of it. Definitely one of the highlights off the album.

I think it works better later in the album, so I'm kind of glad things went the way they did. It was a pretty cool live opener, though.

  9. One thing I've learned from this thread is that I like American Slang waaaaaaay less than the average Gaslight fan.

Not a huge OWL fan but this song has benefitted from a TON of mismatches.

I think Mae is going to lose to River’s Edge, and that bums me out.

Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

OWL should've lost to Orphans. Still a little salty about that, honestly.

I agree. Mae coupled with National Anthem to close out the album is perfection.

When I saw them live they opened with "Mae" and it was the perfect opener. Made the song jump to my top 5 songs of theirs instantly

I love it. That album has always felt to me like a journey from dusk to last call at the bar. Those are the late, late night songs.
