Depending on the day, I'd probably say it's their best album, but that's different than saying it has all their best songs, which it does not. This round, I think the two T59S are the clear weaker tracks in both match-ups, much as I love them. They might both still win.
"Cowgirls" is good, and it probably has an unfair advantage this week because of the Petty reference. But "Dark Places" is fucking devastating.
Boxer Dark Places Dark Places on its own is a very good song. Dark Places when you contrast it against Backseats is devastating
Boxer Dark Places Very hard to vote against Cowgirls which I think is exceptional, but I love Dark Places to death and find its lyrics to be just heartbreakingly great.
Cowgirls and Dark Places are among my two favorite Gaslight songs. Though Cowgirls is one of my favorite songs ever.
Dark Places is the saddest to me but I'd give honorable mention to Kid and National Anthem......I've never considered '59 Sound to be particularly sad.
Dark Places without a doubt. National Anthem & Here's Looking i see similarly, while the overall vibe of the song may be sadness and remorse, it's more of an "i've moved on, it's over" sort of vibe, where as Get Hurt is as well just as sad as "Places" but just doesn't hit that low. "If I thought it would help I would carve your name into my heart"
The "young boys, young girls/ain't supposed to die on a Saturday night" refrain is pretty crushing to me.
