Okay, it seems the counts have stopped coming in. Thanks for your votes everyone! This means that... Great Expectations Handwritten Here Comes My Man Here's Looking At You, Kid and Howl will advance to Round 2 HOWEVER we are still in Round 1. The next phase of matches will be: I Could'a Been a Contender vs. I'da Called You Woody Joe Keepsake vs. Mae Mama's Boys vs. Meet Me By the River's Edge Miles Davis & The Cool vs. Misery Mulholland Drive vs. National Anthem GO!!!!
the easiest round so far; I Could'a Been a Contender Mae Meet Me By the River's Edge Miles Davis & The Cool National Anthem
This one is fucking hard. Woody Joe Keepsake (even though it will lose big I think) Meet Me By The River's Edge Miles Davis Mulholland
I Could'a Been a Contender Mae Meet Me By the River's Edge Miles Davis & The Cool National Anthem This one was definitely the hardest one, with the "Mae"/"Keepsake" pairing being the toughest pick of the entire bracket so far. I know a lot of people don't like "Keepsake," but I love it. That riff is just so gargantuan, and it was the best song in the set at that 29-song Detroit concert I posted the setlist for a few pages back. But "Mae" is an incredibly important song for me, so I've gotta go with that. "National Anthem" vs "Mulholland" is tough too, but not quite as hard.
I Could'a Been a Contender (2) vs. I'da Called You Woody Joe (1) Keepsake (1) vs. Mae (2) Mama's Boys (0) vs. Meet Me By the River's Edge (3) Miles Davis & The Cool (3) vs. Misery (0) Mulholland Drive (1) vs. National Anthem (2)
Keepsake is good but i LOVE Mae. Was toying with considering adding it to the list of possible wedding songs haha, we are both huge gaslight fans
I remember very distinctly that I thought Keepsake was awful the first 4-5 listens only because the chorus seemed forced - the way the notes (vocals) are drawn out, it seemed lazy to me. I quickly realized I was wrong. Great great song and powerful lyrics.
Preach that gospel. Not sure how that song made the cut but "Have Mercy" didn't. Or Sweet Morphine or Mama's Boys for that matter.
Stray Paper and Selected poems are probably my two least favorites and I hope they're not against eachother haha
I think Selected Poems is fucking top-tier Gaslight, so to each his own! But yes, Stray Paper is just so AVERAGE and boring, compared to the rest of their output.
I didn't like Selected Poems initially, but it grew on me after a little while. But yeah, Stray Paper exactly like you said, average and boring. And FFS, can we move on from the use of "blood" in Gaslight songs?
I Could'a Been a Contender Mae Meet Me By the River's Edge Miles Davis & The Cool National Anthem Easy round for me
I Could'a Been a Contender (3) vs. I'da Called You Woody Joe (1) Keepsake (1) vs. Mae (3) Mama's Boys (0) vs. Meet Me By the River's Edge (4) Miles Davis & The Cool (4) vs. Misery (0) Mulholland Drive (1) vs. National Anthem (3)
I Could'a Been a Contender (got a tattoo of this one) Mae Meet Me By the River's Edge Misery National Anthem Those last three were tough.
I Could'a Been a Contender Mae Mama's Boys Miles Davis & The Cool National Anthem Selected Poems is phenomenal you monster
I'da Called You Woody Joe Mae Mama's Boys Miles Davis & The Cool Mulholland Drive This was the easiest round so far. Nice relief.
I still contend that if the 4 Get Hurt b-sides were their own EP that it would be in my top 3 Gaslight releases
