Notice how there are no encores: at the first NYC date of that tour Brian gave a eulogy for encores on stage saying they were a waste of time and that the band would be dropping them in favor of playing more songs
This was so fun. Glad it was a staple towards the end after them barely touching Red at night for years
Crazy that they didn't play Bring It On once after 2011. I read an interview on Dimestore Saints back in the day where he said he needs to retire some songs for a bit now and then, 1930 and High Lonsome being other examples, but he brought those back quickly and frequently. I wonder if he just isn't proud of Bring it On or if it's got a deep barb in him.
45 (13)vs. 1930 (9) 1000 Years (19) vs. Ain't That a Shame (3) American Slang (20) vs. Angry Johnny & The Radio (2) Biloxi Parish (13) vs. Blue Dahlia (9) Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts (20) vs. Boomboxes & Dictionaries (2)
It was in the middle of the tour with Rise Against and Hot Water Music, but both those bands took the night off and Gaslight did a Detroit show without an opener. It was pretty much everything I could have asked for. If they had played "Here Comes My Man," it would have been the perfect show. It was my first time seeing them and their first time back in Michigan in a really long time, so I was fine with it being the staples. They played a weirder set when I saw them on the Get Hurt tour and it wasn't as good of a show. Aw man, that sucks. Aside from the not-so-great acoustics at Saint Andrew's (though they're better now), it was just about ideal.
Okay, it seems the counts have stopped coming in, so this means that 45 1000 Years American Slang Biloxi Parish and Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts will advance to Round 2 HOWEVER we are still in Round 1. The next phase of matches will be: Boxer vs. Break Your Heart Bring It On vs. Casanova, Baby! Dark Places vs. Desire Drive vs. Even Cowgirls Get the Blues Film Noir vs. Get Hurt GO!!!!
Boxer Bring It On (this is the hardest one so far) Dark Places Even Cowgirls Get The Blues Get Hurt (also really hard)
It would have been a lot harder to not pick Drive if Cowgirls wasn't so great and if Howl didn't use a very similar guitar lead to Drive while being a better song
Boxer Casanova, Baby! Dark Places Drive Get Hurt My god, this round was exceptionally hard. "Bring it On" and "Casanova, Baby!" was a really tough one to call, but when it comes to play count Casanova takes the cake.
I know what you mean. I also find the chorus vocal and guitar melodies of Film Noir to be way catchier, but the "May you needed a change..." part of Get Hurt really tears at the heartstrings.
