I really like these new songs but man I am not a fan of the production, mostly just on the vocals. Brian's voice sounds like it was recorded through a cardboard tube.
Honestly love these songs. I don’t think there’s a band that makes me feel things more than these guys
Brian's vocals definitely feel more restrained on these songs. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing though. It fits the sound and vibe of the tracks.
I hope he can still wail when required. Mixing in just a few to make them hit harder would be amazing. Blood Loss still gives me chills.
Seeing them in Indy on Wednesday. Hard to believe it's been almost a decade since I last saw them live.
It's Gaslight Anthem week in my ongoing "My Life In 35 Songs" series. I wrote about "Handwritten." My Life In 35 Songs, Track 22: “Handwritten” by The Gaslight Anthem
Reading this brought back so many memories for me and TGA levels of nostalgia. I graduated college that year. I remember hearing “45” for the first time and loving it to pieces. I finished my college finals the day before the 45 video shoot, and driving out to Asbury Park for it by myself because I couldn’t miss it. Had an amazing time, the show they played was great. After I graduated, I stayed at my school for the summer subletting a friends apartment, interning at the mayor’s office, waiting tables at Olive Garden, applying and interviewing for my first post-grad job and falling in love with Gaslight’s discography all over again in the lead up to Handwritten’s release. When it finally came out, my friend Bri and I laid on her bedroom floor and listened to the album front to back. Such a great song, album and summer.
In this podcast interview clip, Butch Walker mentions working on new material with Brain Fallon. Out in December!? I was not expecting new solo material but if he's teaming up with Butch again, then count me in.
