I would give a lot to hear Meet Me By the River’s Edge in Portland. One of my absolute favorites on the 59’ Sound
I'm seeing them at a late night show friday after their Shaky Knees set. They go on at 11:45 PM. I don't know who I think I am that I can do that, but I'm excited.
Me too and I was thrilled to get it. This and Cowgirls are not played often enough in general, in my opinion
The new song clicked with me last night. It may be a TINY BIT too Gaslight-by-numbers if I'm being overly critical but after a decade gone, I can live with that. It was really really good last night.
Last comment, it's crazy how good the Sink/Swim songs always sound live. That whole album is so amazingly underrated.
It's either Craig or Troy, but I feel like every few years we talk about how good the Sink or Swim songs are live, and that a remastered version of that record would be awesome. I get why it sounds the way it does, but that's a good example of an album getting a boost from a remaster. Wouldn't really be into a re-record, but assuming someone could remaster it, I think that record could have a second life of sorts.
Yeah, give me this right now. I'll take a remaster or a full-album live show recording. I think either of those things would really unlock that album for me. I like the songs, but I definitely struggle with how the album sounds.
Exactly, which is why I think I enjoy them so much live.......in their discography the bad production stands out next to the other songs on other albums.......in concert they fit RIGHT IN and have that extra energy. SO SO GOOD
I've shared this setlist before, but it was the first time I saw the band and it's still one of the best shows I've ever been to. An absolutely insane setlist, 29 songs long, with 8 from Handwritten, 8 from The '59 Sound, and 5 from Sink or Swim. The most I ever loved any of those SoS songs was at this show. The Gaslight Anthem Setlist at Saint Andrew's Hall, Detroit
I actually like Sink or Swim as is. I don’t think it’s bad production. It’s simply what they could afford then. Even if someone could just make the record louder it would go a long way. I tend to not play Gaslight on shuffle bc of how much quieter that record is compared to the rest.
Haha, right?! It was one of those shows that just kept going and going. They were on a tour opening for Rise Against and Hot Water Music at that point, but had a night off and just booked a show in Detroit. So, no opener and they just played for like 2 and a half hours.
