Brian had always had awkward banter in my opinion, but it's endearing. I saw them in Hollywood over the weekend and they sounded fantastic. Between TGA and his solo shows I've probably seen him live about 12 times. More than half of those he has sounded way off, but this past weekend was great.
Huh. I'm perplexed as to where that took place, lol. Guess they'll never take a detour through Durango again! Sounds like the rest of the tour is good to go. Glad that's gonna work out for everyone else.
Same here! I was out of town for the '59 Sound shows so this is my first time seeing them since the Get Hurt tour in 2014.
I take that back. I’ll be in my Angel Olsen “Unfuck the world, y’all” shirt and a jean jacket. It’s fall, might as well dress like it.
It was mostly back. I wouldn’t say all the way there. He rounded off a few notes here and there, but actually went for it on a few that I wasn’t expecting.
I loved how loud and reverby Alex’s lead guitar was. It gives the 59 Sound and Slang songs a really cool, loose feeling. The “Stay Vicious” jam ruled too.
Based on having their own lighting rigs and the way they are presenting the band and performing the songs, there is not much of a nostalgia feel to what they are doing. They are picking up where they left off with get hurt. They are playing and cutting songs as they see fit. Very different feel to their earlier tours and certainly the album play in 2018.
I thought their set list in Minneapolis was very interesting as well. I think they played 3 b sides and 2 covers along with some deeper cuts as well! I went with a buddy who is very much a casual fan, so not sure he loved the set list, but I thought it was cool!!
Portland still got the best setlist of the tour. I feel so lucky. Super happy these guys are doing things the way they want and having a blast. That’s the way it should be.
It really does feel like them picking back up from that from point. The album play was obviously not a fun tour at all but you can tell they’re having a blast with each other. Oddly enough, I do think a good potion of the Chicago crowd wanted that nostalgic feeling. It wasn’t a great crowd. From what I’ve heard other cities have had similar crowds. People who are super into everything before Handwritten (and probably only T59S) but not for anything else they’re playing.
Portland had a ton of casual fans who only knew the hits even with a 59 Sound heavy set. Also a lot of couples where one of them obviously didn’t know much about the band. Definitely not the best crowd, but they did draw nearly twice as many people as the last time they came here in 2015, which was nice to see.
They sounded fantastic last night! Pretty good set list. The band seemed to be having a good time. Kind of a weird crowd and at one point Brian talked for almost 10 straight minutes. So glad they’re back!
Last night was great, band seemed way more into it than last time. Brians banter was as good as always/ Definitely an odd setlist, but still good and a lot of talking during the softer songs from the fans. Either way loved to see them again. The light show was really cool
I'm one of the more casual fans going tonight lol. I actually was more into Brian's solo stuff and didn't even really know about them till after they broke up. But I will still recognize a lot of songs even if I can't sing along to all them. Really excited to see them live
