excellent Handwritten review by @Craig Manning. absolutely throwing this vinyl on today. The Gaslight Anthem – Handwritten
Can't believe this album is (almost) 10 years old. Fun fact: I reviewed this album on my blog in 2012, and @Jason Tate saw it and asked me to come write for AbsolutePunk. So, I'm pretty close to my 10-year anniversary of writing for AP/Chorus, too.
That vinyl used to be absolutely everywhere. Pissed I sold mine years ago (along with many other out of print records)
Yeah, I’ve had it in my wantlist in Discogs for forever but have only been notified from copy’s in Europe. Holding out hope that someone sells to Shake It and I can get a used copy. I check their story multiple times a day lmao
That's actually surprising that it's hard to find, I remember being shocked at how many were pressed at the time
I bought the vinyl when everything shutdown during COVID. That's one good thing that came out of the pandemic.
I miss when El Jefe did their tour posters. That posts makes it seem like that they parted on not good terms. Was really hoping he’d be the one to do the reunion poster by some miracle :(
A decade ago my friends were throwing one of the last summer “end of high school/going off to college” parties. Right before that party, I checked and Handwritten leaked. Myself and 3 other friends went and listened to it 3 straight times. We then went to the party, played it the whole night, and quickly turned our big group of friends into giant Gaslight fans. 10 years later we still are blasting Gaslight and will all be so god damn happy to see this band again live. Happy 10 years to maybe the most important & favorite era of an album I’ve ever experienced!
Awesome writeup, @Craig Manning! This album is so entwined with the summer of 2012 for me, which in turn was one of a lot of personal change (a break up with my high school sweetheart, a summer fling, getting drunk for the first time, hanging out with my friends at the beach every night, etc.). I can never think of that time in my life without hearing some lingering notes from these songs. It's become such a special album to me. Gonna spin it now.
Handwritten was when they tried to launch their official fan club right? 45 RPM Club or something like that? I think they had an exclusive 7" with the original version of Halloween on it
