There is SO much competition for people's time and attention that the only way to try to build long-term recognition is through multiple big moments. Every piece of the puzzle you roll out is another reason to get in front of people and create your own big moment.
Or just bypass everything and go for the big moment. Make people leave their spot in line to see what just caused a disruption to the norm.
Agreed. I don’t mind teasing new content a bit with samples or design overhauls, but touring is not tease worthy. It just works better as an announcement.
As someone that's worked in the industry and seen the numbers when various ways of rolling out announcements are implemented ... the data is clear. If you want any announcement to even be seen, you have to pre-wet the algorithm, teases get people re-interacting with your accounts, which will bring the actual announcement to them when it happens. Y'all would be fired for your roll out plans when they tanked.
I could fire tom delonge for his rollout of Lifeforms and not lose a wink of sleep. I'd probably even be promoted to CEO of TTS.
I think there’s a solid difference between “teasing” and “not even remotely done with the finished product when announced” lol
I don’t like algorithms. Especially, wet ones. I much more prefer organic engagement and fostering that. Which is why I wouldn’t last in the industry or a sales job for that matter lol.
Viral marketing was all the rage for a while. Heat thing. People went nuts, but it was too much hype for the payoff to live up to the standard. When the maroon showed up I was refreshing all day. I’m now at the point where I see it when I see it because it seems like a tour announcement which in may or may not even attend depending on dates and locations
I’ve been wanting them to get back for years. I will be pissed if it’s a tour and doesn’t come close to me! I came to get hurt!!! Might as well do your worst to me
Marketing is successful based on sales and memorability. So far there has been no sales (assuming it’s a tour) and the maroon panel.
I would think the social media and website updates were to generate some buzz and get people talking about them again. So to that end, I would say it’s been successful thus far.
As someone who has spent his career in digital marketing, there are many many maaaaany metrics consideeed successful outside of just sales and chorus.fm approval ratings lol
