I think they went live too early for pre-orders, said 8am PST time but its up now for anyone looking. Gold is already sold out.
Whenever I listen to Elsie I remember it’s one of my favorite albums of all time. Then for whatever reason I’ll go months at a time forgetting it exists, despite listening to the rest of the Fallon catalogue pretty regularly.
The opening line “Start up the car….” From Last Rites is in my head all the time when I am going to drive anywhere and my vehicle is in my garage. Straying the album with an instruction lyric catches you right away. Great album.
I remember Brian using the term “night time music” and always thought that was the perfect descriptor.
Only time I can play it in the daytime is if it’s super gloomy and rainy…which it is today, so I’m listening to Elsie as we speak.
For me it’s either nighttime with whiskey or very warm fall day with trees being all red and orange…so Elsie is definitely my fall record…but that’s just me haha
Already have a pressing or I’d have dove in headfirst. One of my very favorite albums of the last decade.
I personally love Mama's Boys, so I would have put it on there too, but Sweet Morphine is absolutely and utterly essential. No question. Now hearing it from Brian though, Have Mercy is officially my Track 1 and SM & MB both make the cut.
I agree with have mercy, but mamas boys and sweet morphine always just felt like b sides to me, despite really liking them.
Sweet Morphine and Mama’s Boys don’t fit fit the the rest of Get Hurt and but do fit with each other. I guess if anything they’d belong with songs more light Red Lights and were so sort of the Molly and the Zombies brief era songs stylistically.
I listened to my 14-track playlist of the Get Hurt songs with "Have Mercy" as Track 1 on my drive home from Boston last night, and I think it is the perfect version of the album for me now. "Sweet Morphine" feels like it fits perfectly on the album to me, but it makes sense that it would because I dropped it into a playlist with the other songs and have been listening to it that way since I very first got my hands on the deluxe version of the album. Plus, the original Get Hurt album had things like opening with "Stay Vicious" and then "Get Hurt" two songs later, or "Ain't That a Shame" going into "Break Your Heart" - it's always seemed like the type of album to me that could have easily worked songs like SM & MB into the tracklist, they just chose not to for whatever reason and went with other songs. Also, it's weird because I will go out of my way to play other Gaslight albums from time to time if the mood strikes me, but Get Hurt is their only album that I listen to all of the time on a regular basis.
I listen to Get Hirt a lot too. Surprised Halloween didn’t end up making it because Brian’s early description of the album is pretty much what that song was. I know it was our earlier with the RPM club thing, the lyrics and build on that song are pretty awesome. I love Have Mercy and it may be a better fit than Stay Viscous…I’m not sure. I do think Have Mercy does have a nice calm after the storm feel too.
I've struggled because I do admit that it's hard to find a good spot on the album for "Have Mercy" while at the same time it is a Top 3 of all Brian Fallon projects song for me so it is just simply too good not to be on there.
Because Have Mercy is a little different it’s really stands out. I personally love Break Your Heart for that reason as well.
Whoever suggested Have Mercy as song one nailed it. Once i made that change to my track list...things really fell into place. Perfect weather for that album right now in SE Michigan.. 50 and rain. Throwing it on right now.
