Where is the fan version posted! The was the RpM club version which was also good. I kinda figured they tweaked it a bit because it was a re-record. Also agree with you and what most other people are saying. I think having a break up album being a bit of a mess (although unintentional) doesn’t seem weird. There isn’t a Gaslight release I don’t like. Some just have different things I love about them than another.
I absolutely love Get Hurt. I do admit though that it does seem a tiny bit sad to me that a messy angry break-up album will stand as the swan song to the band who put out albums like '59 Sound before that. I know the guys still like each other a lot and get along, but also, if you look at what Brian has done with his music solo since TGA and then look at what the other guys have done, it does seem like there must have been some tension there for Brian to be writing a certain type of song / music when he really wanted to be exploring a different vein. * I think it is the rpm club (?) version that I am talking about, but honestly my memory is a little rusty on it. I was at the Boston show where they debuted "Halloween" live on the Handwritten tour, and I have loved it since that day.
My hottest take is how disappointing the recorded version of Have Mercy is once you hear Brian do it live.
Brian could have done a solo album (zombies/Americana style) and got it out of his system. There is a lot of Painkillers and almost all of Sleepwalkers could have been what a current version Gaslight sounded like if all the guys wanted too. I thin American Slang and Sleepwalkers have a lot in common.
I remember when American Slang first came out, and I was listening to it in my room, and my mum walked in and asked me if it was The Killers lol
Handwritten might be my second favorite album of all time. I would say what #1 is, but based off the thread we are, I’m sure we could guess.
Handwritten is great too. The acoustic b sides also don’t get enough talk (Misery, Hold You Up, and Teenage Rebellion).
When Handwritten came out I had a “thing” with someone that went on for a long time. However, that album with those lyrics defined every single moment of that summer and fall. Additionally, my entire friend group came together from that album. I have the fondest memories through it. When my “thing” ended with that girl in quite drastic fashion, Misery and Hold You Up really nailed it. Those songs are great.
These songs are absolutely incredible. I realized like a year or so ago that I didn't have them on my latest setup and needed to track them down that instant.
I'd love the band to make music again and think it's clear Brian still has plenty of great songs in him. But I wonder if his comparably moderate solo success is just as lucrative as (or more than) when he is in The Gaslight Anthem since the profits aren't split... Certainly not the only reason for/against the band making new music but I'd be interested to know how it compares.
Honestly me too. I like Etta James. It's def not a skip at all. But there's songs on there that hit harder for me. Gimme Watson allllllllllll day.
My personal favorite track off Sleepwalkers is probably "Watson" - but if I had to pick which one was the best one I would prob have to go with "Etta James".
Pretty sure “Proof of Life” is the only song I skip on Sleepwalkers. Everything else on it varies from good to top-tier Brian Fallon in terms of quality.
Proof of Life is a weird one for me because it's my least favorite, yet also contains one of my all-time favorite Fallon lyrics ("I get up in the morning like a ghost chained to a haunting, and I come home in the evening 'cause you're all I ever wanted")
My least favorite track off Sleepwalkers would probably be a toss-up between "Her Majesty's Service" and "Proof of Life". Not because either one are bad songs, I like them both a lot, but if I had to pick it'd be one of those. It's such a solid album.
I still can't really get into his solo albums which is weird because I love everything else Brian Fallon related.
