Shit it definitely did leak early but it was before I understood leaks and how to access them. I remember finding some tracks on YouTube and being like "IS THIS REAL?" I think it was Orphans and Old Haunts. Now I want to read the AbsolutePunk Handwritten review. I remember losing my shit when it was given 100%.
American Slang leaked before it was even recorded. I swear that shit was out there for like 4 months before release.
Yeah, AS leaked super early, it leaked the same day as Against Me's White Crosses if I remember right. Was a crazy day of music haha
Yeah both leaked super early not sure if it was the same day but I remember it being weird that they had very similar lines in their songs American Slang: "I got your name tattooed inside of my arm" Because of The Shame: "With my name tattoo'd into your skin."
Can't wait to jam American Slang on my way down to the beach later. I know it's wishful thinking but at the Aug. 19th Asbury Park show, part of me really hopes that after they play "The Backseat" they kick off their encore set with "Dark Places".
If anyone has an extra Chicago ticket for one of my buddies let me know! Stubhub prices are pretty insane as expected
If they don't do one. A whole shit ton of stuff leaked that day/week. Pretty sure the list also included LCD Soundsystem's This Is Happening, The Black Keys' Brothers, the self-titled Good Old War record, The Hold Steady's Heaven Is Whenever, and maybe a few others. It was insane.
This demo for the Patient Ferris Wheel is knocking my socks off. Ted Hutt really did God's work producing this album lol.
"Don't it seem like there ain't nobody out there sometimes and it feels like I'm the only one lonely inside. The years keep slipping {seem the harder I try?}, the years keep slipping seem like every night, the years the years the years go by, the years the years the years go by." is such a wildly different chorus for High Lonesome. Knocked me on my ass when I first heard it.
nothing on The 59 Sound Sessions is really doing anything for me, but, i guess it's cool to hear how these songs evolved. Glad I didn't shell out for the vinyl packages though the book seemed cool.
I shelled out exclusively for the book. I was trying to find someone who wanted the record but I guess they're attached. I had to have that book though. They have a freaking chokehold on my wallet.
Yeah, had to have that book more than anything. Plus, it's my favorite album of all-time so it felt pretty important for me to have those demos in my collection.
I might like the demo version of Patient Ferris Wheel more than the standard. OneSideDummy said they started shipping out yesterday. Hoping to get my book, vinyl and t-shirt by early next week.
Placeholder is so Sink or Swim that it about moved me to tears to put me back in those shoes, bless this record/collection/whatever it is
The songwriting on American Slang is so incredible. "I would take it easy if I had your mind but I'm a cannonball to a house on fire and you're slow like Motown soul."
I'm digging the demo versions of the tracks on the 59 Sound Sessions. The alternative versions caught me off guard the first time through because I was singing along (think the first one this occurred with was the Patient Ferris Wheel) and then the lyrics were completely different. I was like WTF? Then I went online and did some research and then it all made sense. Also, the God's Gonna Cut You Down cover was pretty damn good...somehow I hadn't heard that one before this record.
Did a revisit of Get Hurt. It was my first revisit in quite some time. So much more enjoyable than I remember it being. It's a grower apparently!
