What if it had been before Mae, just traded places with Desire. Only song it would effect is the impact of Howl, but you could switch Howl and Bixoli Parish then too.
Hey now, "Halloween" is fantastic song. I could take or leave "Sweet Morphine" + "Mamas Boys," but "Halloween" is a very special song.
I can't fathom disliking the Get Hurt b-sides(outside of the Tom Waits cover). Such a fantastic bunch of songs. Halloween is totally deserving of all acclaim imo. Still get chills from that one sometimes.
halloween kinda meanders around some cool ideas but never actually lands and just ends up feeling all over the place. have mercy is damn good tho. still it feels like an epilogue track and you gotta have dark places as the closer. i actually like get hurt a good amount but it's attached to such a terrifying time in my life i rarely listen to it. like the songs will still generate terror and anguish. tho i'll always hold it close for moving my legs to class while i was going out of my mind
Get Hurt came out the week after I got out of a six year relationship. Don't think I've ever played an album front to back that much in that short of time.
Yes sir, one month after ending a 4 year relationship for me... a relationship in which our first date was a Gaslight show haha. Album will always be the soundtrack to being a pathetic mess for a month or so.
Halloween is peak Fallon lyricism. The low-fi sound really works. Doesn't fit with the rest of Get Hurt sonically but as an independent B-side it accomplishes so much.
Get Hurt leaked the day before a trip to Maine with my then-girlfriend at the end of our relationship. Hit hard.
Yeah, this came out right at the tail-end of the most toxic relationship I've ever been in. So, we're all in it together haha.
Get Hurt didn't come out around a break up for me but it has been played a lot over the last few months after ending a 5 year relationship. Pretty cathartic, very relatable and an incredible LP.
Random comments since this is by far my favorite band. Get Hurt is great and they really and truly don't have any BAD songs Love 3 of the 4 B-Sides.......Halloween is the weakest though and Have Mercy is the strongest Least favorite Gaslight song is Stay Vicious, Stray Paper is bottom 5 as well for me........just feels like Gaslight-by-numbers to me, doesn't connect with me........but doesn't make it "bad" Dark Places is my favorite on the album by far Red Violins, and Selected Poems are wildly underrated and GREAT songs Keepsake was a grower for me, the chorus was odd to me at first, but I love it now. I like Desire, Mae, National Anthem all individually, but not in the album sequence Two of their best songs that I never seen on anyone's "Best of" lists are Boxer and Bring It On
The only song from all of their releases prior to Get Hurt that I haven't seen them play is We Did it When We Were Young, which drives me nuts because I adore that track. Brian mentioned it's a tricky one for him to play and sing at the same time, and it hasn't been played since 2012.
I remember listening to that acoustic performance and "demo" version of Halloween to death. Lyrically I love that song, but I don't care for the Get Hurt version of it.
Me too. I get why they tweaked it, but this one is my favourite too. Sounds good acoustic too. Wish there was a studio version as well.
I watch that set at least once a month, it's so good. The colors in the video are really vibrant as well.
