I've listened to the new mix a lot of times now, and the only song that I can clearly say isn't improved with the new mix for me is "Spider Bites". the new mix loses a tiny bit of energy, and I absolutely love the energy of the original mix. it is a close call though, because every other aspect of the song sounds incredible with the updated mix: Brian's voice, the rest of the band, everything. title track is infinitely superior with the new mix. like night and day, demo vs finished version. honestly, the original mix of this song is the one I struggled with the most in its original album form - Brian's voice was so hard to hear, and it stuck out even more because Bruce sounds pretty damn good. after that, the only song I notice a huge difference with - good or bad - is the closer. I am absolutely in love with the new mix of “A Lifetime of Preludes”. I always thought it was a weird and kinda weak closer, and although I enjoyed the contrast of it coming right after “I Live In The Room Above Her”, it always felt kinda like a gimmick - something about the new mix makes it flow absolutely perfectly for me now and I cannot imagine the album flowing or ending any other way. there are a few songs - like “Positive Charge” & “Empires” - where I honestly can't say which version I prefer, even if I play the game of listening to the versions back-to-back, but the entire album just sounds better now and is much easier to connect with, and I honestly already loved the album so much to begin with. as someone else already said, the songs were always there. very cool of the band to do this and recognize that a lot of people don't / can't listen to vinyl.
seeing the band tomorrow in Denver. havne't seen 'em since the Get Hurt tour, which was basically ten years ago now. so excited.
spaced i have tix to the SD, thanks for the reminder. Also haven't seen them since Get Hurt. Wife's first time. Very excited and hoping for an awesome set list...handwritten heavy pls
Please report back. Really hoping for a 23-24 song set instead of 19. Makes a big difference! I don't really care what songs they play at this point all that much - it's all good.
Haven’t seen them on this tour but I saw them in Philly in Oct. 2022, and it was like they were never away. In fact they were better than ever. The guy who tours with them on keyboards and backing vocals adds a lot.
Setlist for 07/26/2024 @ Denver Handwritten Great expectations The Patient Ferris Wheel Weatherman Mullholland Drive Keepsake Spider Bites Blue Dahlia Miles Davis High Lonesome Mae 1930 Michigan Boomboxes and Dictionaries Underneath the ground 45 Autumn American Slang The 59 Sound *** This is all off the top of my head. The first 4 songs were in that order. I just jotted down the rest, they are in no particular order. It came out to a 90 minute set. Overall, the band was top notch. U was at the front and had a blast. Not much from History books but a lot from The 59 Sound. It was cool to hear material from Sink or Swim. I'm sure a correct setlist will be posted soon.
Decent set It baffles me when they don’t play Backseat but whatever. Always a good time at a TGA show. Looking forward to Portland next week
They started right at 9. The Dirty Nils - 7 to 7:30 Joyce Manor - 7:45 to 8:30 The Gaslight Anthem - 9 to 10:30
Gaslight coming on at 10 on Tuesday is gonna be rough lol That’s a nice set. I love Backseat but they closed with it for years so I’m not sad to see it getting a break.
Tbf they closed with Backseat/Divorce and then Backseat again at both shows I caught this year, it'll be rotated I think
