Really great read. Finally went back on medication a few weeks back as well. Starting to notice small changes. I get what he means about that buzz. For me it was that "voice of dread" that I just couldn't seem to shut up. It was always there, right when I woke up, when I was trying to get anything done for work, trying to sleep. It's still there, but I am now able to shut it up.
All the discussions about the production/mixing are fun to read, and to be fair, it can be a pretty subjective topic. I for one like both of these singles a lot, but as a musician I can already hear in my head how I'd like them *more* if I was given the audio tracks to mess with. Even so, nothing will ever disappoint me more than what was done with Senses Fail's "The Fire". I will insist to my grave that it would be a lot of people's favorite record from that band if it didn't sound like it was trudging through mud and groundwater.
Picked a rough day to not be online! Big shock seeing all this and so many of the variants already sold out.
I completely get the production complaints, but I’m obsessed with this song. If the tapestry of the record is a somber, nuanced look back on the past, then I'm sure it'll make more sense. And ripping vocals may have sounded out of place with that "dusty bookshelf" theme. “You just remind me of the Nights of smoke and dirty jokes Darkened rooms with lonely ghosts And they were beautiful some time ago But time keeps rollin' us on” Are you serious!? Brian Fallon can't be mortal.
This is where I’m at too, I love positive charge and absolutely adore the new one. I also played them very loudly on my good headphones and the songs sound huge. It’s not what I would have chosen production wise but whatever I kinda admire the choice to make the songs sound rough and almost a little sloppy, it’s unique given the fact that most music now sounds so perfect. I love this band and am so happy they’re back and writing incredible songs.
At the risk of proving your point about subjectivity, I am incredibly picky when it comes to mixes and masters as a musician myself. And yet I think The Fire sounds fine (serviceable, basically, and I still love the album) while I can't even listen to the new album Hell is in Your Head. Absolutely ruined by its mix and especially its master. I also quite dislike the mix and master and the way they made Brian's vocals sound here on these two new songs. He sounds tired and buried and distant (partially the performance, partially the mix). Bummer! Still happy to have the band back and the songwriting is strong enough.
Digging the two new songs. History Books sounds like it could’ve been on Get Hurt, which I think is awesome. An October Gaslight Anthem album is going to be just what I’ll need. Gonna listen to Get shirt today, especially because it’s going to be a hot day.
I traded for Zach Ertz in fantasy football like 5-6 years ago and made my team name: “I Came to Get Ertz”
those stupid freestyle machines have squirt in them and ive gotten it, dont prefer it but its not awful.
