Now give me an Atmos mix. I want the clicking to swirl around me.

Anyone notice it seems like Brian completely re-sang his vocals too?

Now this I can actually believe, I thought I caught some different cadences etc., might have just been alt vocal takes

I’ve noticed new inflections in his vocals but I think it’s just due to the less muddy sound letting the different parts breath

This is what I would expect it to be.

Nah because there were cracks in his voice and stuff at certain points previously that aren’t there anymore I think even a word is different in Michigan I need to re listen. Idk I’ve listened to the original album like 100 times and it’s pretty apparent to me at least that he re did at least a lot of the vocals

Yeah unlike the 'click track' I am definitely not hearing things, fairly sure lots of these are different takes

Also where the fuck did the backing vocals come from on half of these??

Whoa, this almost sounds like a new record. The production on the original irked me at first, but I eventually grew to really love it however and that muddy production just sounds like "fall" to me now. Not sure if I'll actually prefer this new version or not.

Yeah, no, I'm all for it considering you have the tracks to compare against.

Not complaining…but the lead guitar is all but gone in the chorus of positive charge now

So far my dissertation has revealed that yeah maybe he didn't re-sing them, maybe it really does just sound different in parts because you can hear him clearly now. Who knows, either way he sounds great! Glad we can all go on this journey together lol

  18. I'm not familiar enough to compare the parts, but it's possible that in the multiple takes that any vocalist would do while recording, different ones were brought to the forefront in the remix but they were always there.

Loving the new version. Had trouble getting into the album last year. Now it's clicking. (no pun intended)

Cool they put it up on bandcamp for free also

Ok, I went and listened to both. It's a pretty even split between what I prefer. Bold is the remaster.

Good guy, but a bad dude

Album initially fell kinda flat for me. It was good but it didn’t stick. Sounds sooo much better

all this discourse kinda reminds me of when The 59 Sound first came out. people on message boards did not like the production, (but it did translate better on vinyl). eventually all that online controversy got dropped.

anyway, this new mix sounds awesome. also glad to have the OG mix on vinyl. best of both worlds!

Tbh there’s been so much talk the last few years on this site about remixes and whatnot that I was ready to fight on this one if someone claimed it wasn’t different haha.

    glad the band confirmed!

  24. I don't specifically remember the controversy around that release, but at the time and still to this day, I think every choice on that mix feels very intentional and aimed at getting a specific style across. It never feels sloppy or wrong to my ears. I tended to give the same benefit of the doubt to the original History Books mix — that it was going for a scrappier vibe — but this new mix is proof that there was a lot of room for improvement there regardless. Not sure I'd want to hear '59 Sound get the same treatment.
