I feel SO justified in my gripes with the mix now haha I tried to not post much about it here but with my friends we just kept saying how it sounded like Brian’s vocals were recorded on an iPhone and it just sounded so bad. The title track was the most glaring. So excited to listen today!
Haven't listened yet, but I'm excited for this. I love this album, but it has felt like it had a bit of an asterisk next to it in their catalog because the mix was so poor. Feels like this could really breathe some new life into this album and make it a pantheon-level Gaslight LP.
I also didn't hate the original mix, but there are so many elements that the remix resurfaces that I never would have known were there before or couldn't properly appreciate. Been enjoying my listen-through this morning.
Wait why is it only 10 songs on the Bandcamp download when it says expanded? Also is it confirmed that this free download the remixed version or just what was there already?
Chris Dugan - from his credits he seems to be Green Day's in-house recording engineer, and he's also mixed some of their recent stuff.
Whynot Jansveld did the mastering according to Apple Music, too. He's not credited on the first release. According to Wikipedia, it was Peter Katis mixing the first release and Greb Calbi mastering.
the original mix does sound good on vinyl, i will say. i want that 7" EP but shipping costs just as much as the record. hmm.
Listening to the first 2 tracks and my god this is such a significant upgrade I feel like I’m listening to the real album for the first time after having demos for a year lol I just could not ever stand the mix specifically on Brian’s vocals and here we are
At the end of History Books there is a guitar line before that just straight up didn't exist on the original version lol
Holy shit this is awesome and they are awesome for doing this. This sounds incredible and now I’m not embarrassed when I say this just might be my favorite TGA album. What a beautiful surprise
If I never looked up the lyrics, I would have no idea what the literal first lyric of the album is on Spider Bites. Crystal clear now
