I’ve never really cared for Underneath the Ground live. I know Brian likes the song, I think most fans do too so I get it, but just never personally loved it
The "Blue Jeans" rewrite sucks and I will now be forgetting it for the rest of my life. "Ocean Eyes" cover absolutely rocks.
i still adore the original "blue jeans" but damn, i love this new version. is that "blow up some cars" line a nod to Ryan Bingham? very fucking cool, if so.
The only super minor gripe I have with the blue jeans re-record is there aren’t any of the “wah-ahs” after “we like our choruses sung together” lol. But the song rules, the ocean eyes cover rules and this band rules.
Does anyone live in the UK and fancy two free tickets to see Gaslight tomorrow (Monday 25/03/2024) at the Roundhouse in London? I have two spare but can't sell them as the Roundhouse ticket app doesn't permit returns or resale. I can only "send them to a friend", but it looks well sketchy to sell them and share them as I can reclaim the tickets at any time even after sharing them. Best solution is to make sure they don't go to waste, so I just want to share them without people being scared I'll reclaim them. First person to ask for them gets them EDIT: Nobody biting so going to offer them out to Reddit.
Setlists have been varied and good recently - only comment is I wish they could add about 2 more new songs without subtracting any old ones. A few songs whose stock has risen drastically the longer I sit with this album: History Books (didn't love it at first) A Lifetime of Preludes (so underrated in my opinion) Little Fires (should be getting played live every night!)
the Ocean Eyes cover just makes me wish they did History Books with Butch Walker. the production on that entire record just isn't for me, and this new EP sounds great.
Tonight's setlist. I got broken up with this week and cried a lot but this band and this crowd made me feel less alone for a bit. The Gaslight Anthem Setlist at 3Olympia Theatre, Dublin
Damn that last six is flawless. They’re getting close to the 2010s punk rock version of how Bruce ends his set with straight bangers. You even got a Mildred J Hill and Patty Hill cover!
Yeah the last stretch is banger central - I was very pleased to hear Old White Lincoln in particular because that's been toward the start of the set for much of the tour!
i saw bruce this summer and he was great. but as someone who doesn't know bruce's entire catalogue, getting to that last hour and a half of the set was roughhhh.
haha yeah I can understand that. I'm someone who actively listens to his music on a weekly basis and has an affinity for his newer stuff too. I don't know every album, but I definitely get stoked when he breaks out "Last Man Standing" off Letter to You or something like that.
I'm listening to Handwritten on vinyl and while the A-side is on it might be my favorite TGA album. gonna run through American Slang and The '59 Sound again to disabuse myself of that notion.
Too Much Blood is only one i'm still totally out on all these years later. Remove that. Add teenage rebellion and blue dahlia. Perfection.
