should we warn other threads that donnie isnt who he says he is or should we leave them blissfully ignorant
Saw them last night in Brussel. Great setlist but only 3 songs from History Books. Michigan fell a bit flat for me and I hoped to see some others. Also hardly any banter but a snippet of Sad But True. The band seemed to enjoy playing live again!
Oh ok. I misunderstood you. I thought you were comparing it to Sink or Swim in that they were at the very beginning of their journey.
I went to this same show but have quite a different opinion on it. Brian seemed like a knock-off Jack Black and I thought the "banter" was largely weak. He kept asking if the crowd were still with him. His timing was off on a fair few moments, missing the start of some big chorus' and his duet with Emily Woolf on Blue Jeans & White T-shirts was absolutely abysmal. It seemed to be unplanned - they said as much - and as a result neither of them were managing to sing into the microphone, perhaps not to be uncomfortably close. I do agree that the setlist was great. And despite my various quibbles, I enjoyed the show, as it was the first time I've seen Gaslight for many years. My gf, who likes Brian's solo stuff a lot on record but had never seen TGA or him before, was very disappointed.
Saw them in Brussels too. They do had fun together but overall, I didn’t think they sounded too good. Brian missed a lot of the lyrics, and I don’t’ know, the overall sound sounded a bit “empty”. In my opinion, they try to sound a bit too much as a “raw rockband”, while the show would have benefited if they were going for a more polished sound I think.
If I had to guess I’m expecting a “deluxe version” of some kind with a tour. Maybe a few acoustic versions and a cover? Just excited to hopefully see them again this year!
I agree, but I also think it improved during the show. The first songs were a bit lackluster. But especially after getting the crowd to yell along to the intro of Howl it started to feel like a better show as a whole.
