God, days like today make me want to shut the whole forum down. Let people like things and don't be a dick about it. It's not really that hard.
I just like honest discourse - I like this, somebody else doesn't, here's why, we disagree, that's cool! When it devolves into mocking another's opinion or calling them an idiot I lose interest so fast.
Literally my website, people being mean constantly on it, about shit like a band people like, for no good reason is a pretty good reason for me to not want to run it anymore. These last two pages? Make me not want to run it.
I know you're very passionate about them (and I liked that previous Cold Years record A LOT too) but I really don't think anyone has said anything terribly out of line? Maybe could have been phrased better sure but it wasn't like anyone said "cold years sounds like a faulty water spout" or something
If you don't think "oh people wanted generic" is being ridiculous, nothing I say is going to convince you. I'm telling you how I feel reading it. I feel like running this website is a waste of my time when I read stuff like that.
Well, I guess I see that, but for the record, I do very much appreciate the website's existence. I think I've been a supporter almost as long as I've had an account.
I thought Northern Blue EP was great. Paradise was very good. Goodbye to Misery was about half good. And the new stuff seems sorta ok I guess. Slow small downward trend to me.
this feels like moving the goalposts man. every thread on this site moves from topic to topic regularly and I don't think some Good Reason is required to say you dislike something.
Well I guess I need to check out this cold years band! I somehow never heard of them but it seems like people have strong opinions on both sides.
I don’t see how this is much different. An off handed comment about an album is not much different than an off handed comment about a band. It’s not a personal attack if someone thinks a band sounds generic.
I disagree. And I find that kind of "discourse" exhausting and reductive to the point that I can't read social media anymore because that's 90% of it, and also why when I see it on a place I ostensibly created, it makes me wanna not have it exist because I find it actively making the world slightly worse. And me feeling bad about something I have the power to stop, makes me think about it.
If you can't see the difference between me making a joke about a triple disc of a band I love, using something the band itself has said about it, and what I'm talking about ... I dunno what I'm gonna be able to say to show you.
I think you're taking this more personally than is necessary because it's a band you really really love
Yeah I don’t think I’ve seen any personal attacks and opinions were provoked when someone brought them up as a potential opener. This is nothing different than what goes on in any other thread on this site and I’ve seen much worse examples of what Jason is hinting towards. I don’t think any of these comments were really made with malice.
