Kupe, you seem to know things. Please tell us more. Even if just a short paragraph on what the album sounds like, how it stacks up to their classic material, etc.
I have extremely incredible & terrible memories tied to Handwritten as it was the summer after high school and going to college. Gaslight was already my favorite band (besides blink) and I wanted the rest of my friend group to share my joy. When I caught wind it leaked, I was at an Ocean State Job Lot buying matching jumpsuits for a party later that night. I gathered up my 4 friends who were already TGA fans and we listened to it 2-3 straight times. My favorite first listen ever. Then we went to a party later that night and played it allll night. We converted our entire friend group from that night and what proceeded was years of driving up the east coast, all of us together, to see them in Boston, Providence, DC, etc. They were our band. That same night me and a longtime friend finally began a relationship, but it was just in time for us to go off to college. Handwritten was the natural soundtrack to that relationship. What proceeded was a messy and terrible 4 years filled with being cheated on, alcoholism, etc. Fast forward 11 years later we respectively decided to reconcile our friendship and even attended each other's weddings, but still there's just something about that time I loved, hated, and am nostalgic about. And on the anniversary of that night and album that started it all there's a new song by the same band with lyrics: "When I think of you now it just reminds me of the nights of spoken dirty jokes, dark rooms and lonely ghosts, and they were beautiful sometime ago but time keeps rolling us on"" I'm on one today, but I love this band so much and am so happy to still have them.
granted I haven’t listened to it too too much so take all of this with a grain of salt. But I’d say it’s like a mix of 59 sound and Handwritten. Has a sadder, somber tone to it. Michigan, 1975 has absolutely unbelievable lyrics, it’s based on a movie. Because people are wondering about the production, yes they all sound like Positive Charge, to me it suits the album perfectly. Overall, it’s exactly what you would expect, a more mature Gaslight Anthem, which is to say, absolutely awesome
Based off these two songs it does naturally feel like a follow up to Handwritten. And with it coming out in the Fall, I think the production and vibe will hit just right.
was pretty cold on positive charge initially, but I'm liking it more every listen. Get Hurt (the song) has been coming up so much for me on Spotify and I think that is my fav TGA song ever.
Get Hurt is not only one of my fav TGA songs but one of my fav songs period. An absolutely devastating banger.
I still remember walking into Brigham for a really big surgery and listening to Get Hurt because I thought it was funny lol. Top-Tier song for me.
My god just reminded in college I made a music video to Get Hurt and realized it's still on Youtube. Watching it back I can tell I was severely depressed at the time
When I thinnnnnnk of you nowwwwww, it just brings me down Yep, needed this in my life. The release date is the day my vacation in Japan begins and I can't wait for it to be the soundtrack to that week.
It was for a college intro to media class so by all means it's obviously terrible production wise cause it was my 2nd time using a camera and editing, but here you go: Please check TW - drugs/suicide/guns/cutting
