Totally random but might interest some folks: Back when I got into the band and was on a kick of watching so many live videos, their performance at Area 4 in 2010 was always my favorite. It was on Youtube in full but since got taken down, and the streaming video on WDR's site linked to the wrong performance so it was just gone, could never find it in full again. Just notice it's back streaming here: The Gaslight Anthem - Area4 2010 Enjoy while you're waiting for the new album (well, while us bums who don't have the vinyl yet wait...) if you've never seen it. The band at its young peak IMO, Brian's energy is incredible.
I don't usually prefer listening to albums on my record player as a "first listen" and prefer nice headphones. But with the anticipated production they went for on this album, it almost feels like a record player first listen would be more ideal. However, I'm a fool and my vinyl ain't coming early.
I know this is slightly blasphemous around these parts but having handwritten above American Slang is bonkers to me lol

American Slang is more solid start to finish, Handwritten has higher highs and means more to me. Would take both every day of the week over Get Hurt, with all due respect to people who love that album.
I can't tell if I like Get Hurt better now that it's just this weird anomaly in their catalog, rather than viewing it as the album that broke them and ended their career as a band. But I don't think I've ever moved on from my initial impression of it, which is that I just find it way less satisfying than Handwritten and wish I liked more of the songs.
59 Sound Handwritten American Slang Get Hurt Sink Or Swim now where oh where will History Books slot in
