Last night may have been my favorite time ever seeing them (setlist aside). They sounded perfect, Brian’s banter was top tier, and the band just seemed to be genuinely having a blast I felt the same way at Riot Fest as well though. They were just definitely way better all around than the first run of reunion shows last year imo plus they played Stay Lucky last night which was one of my top hopes
Yeah that site was a big old mess, but I somehow snagged tickets for Saturday. My first Gaslight show was Handwritten's record release show 11 long years ago, and now this History Books' record release show is my 11th Brian Fallon fronted show. Time is a flat circle or something like that.
The Webster Hall show in 2012? That still remains, to this day, my favorite time seeing them. Loved how he threw in a cover of my favorite Fake Problems song
That’s the one! The setlist was near perfect for them at that point in their career. They absolutely crushed it.
I saw them last night, and they sounded really good! My 8th time, but the first since they were touring Handwritten. Here's the set: High Lonesome Old White Lincoln 45 History Books Red Violins Say I Won’t (Recognize) Mae The Spirit of Jazz Mulholland Drive Little Fires Underneath the Ground Keepsake Wooderson Senor and the Queen Even Cowgirls Get the Blues Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts American Slang Great Expectations The ’59 Sound The Backseat
The interview with Brian on the first ever podcast today is really great. He also explains the intention behind how history books sounds a little more.
Got a good laugh out of this, venue by me is promoting Brian Fallon's solo tour: "As you may already know, The Gaslight Anthem is on a hiatus, but we are honored and proud to present the one and only Brian Fallon!"
Love the story of the time Bruce showed up asking if he could play "The 59 Sound" at Glastonbury with them and he arrived up with a police escort and Brian was like aww shit someone's getting arrested.
I like how there is the slight nod to Stefan in that video (with the facetime decline). Brian really did try to facetime him during the show and Stefan wouldn't answer. Brian mentioned early in the show that he was going to facetime Stefan at some point, and Brian added that Stefan preferred to facetime the following night, because he was busy.
Phenomenal show tonight. Catbite and Donovan Woods were excellent openers as well. Setlist was fire.
