I'd put Elsie second in his entire catalogue behind only The 59 Sound which is my favourite album ever.
59 Sound American Slang Sleepwalkers Elsie Sink or Swim Handwritten History Books Painkillers Local Honey Get Hurt
59 Sound American Slang Handwritten Sink or Swim Sleepwalkers Get Hurt (including bonus tracks) Painkillers History Books Elsie Local Honey
Before anyone yells at me (again), I love Elsie too, it's incredible, but it also happens to have, like, 3 of my least favorite BF songs and that drags it down compared to the others.
I am more prepared to acknowledge Molly and the Zombies or the Cincinnati Rail Tie or whatever before Night Divine haha
Cincinnati Rail Tie isn't great, but the other band, the one after that and before Gaslight, is very listenable
I still accept the Reading and Leeds version of Have Mercy the finished product of this song, and that version is probably a top-5 gaslight song for me.
I am not a fan of I Believe Jesus, Joey (which I know is a bonus track and a cover so kinda cheating here), and Cherry Blossoms I love "slow Fallon" but none of these are very melodic to me, and his best slow songs are still very melodic. These are more, like.......moody? I guess. Probably not explaining it very well. But I do love the rest of the album.
If we are ranking: 59 Sound Slang Elsie Sink or Swim Handwritten History Books Get Hurt Painkillers Sleepwalkers Local Honey (21 Days is a great song)
HA HA fair enough. I could easily move the album up from 9th, to like, 6th or 7th, those are all close for me. But those 3 songs are just not my thing and all the other albums are more "start to finish great" in my opinion so they stick out compared to other albums
He dropped that right before the pandemic and I was able to catch him in Delaware with Justin Townes Earle (Last Show,RIP).
