Yeah the remixed version is better across the board and what I reach for when I wanna hear this record.
thanks for sharing, this was excellent. especially the last hour or so. I'd love for a part two, learned a lot about Brian.
Yeah I think Butch said they were recording it in December so hopefully we get it by maybe summer? Very exciting
Would love a Brian solo tour too. Was supposed to see him on his last solo tour but show was cancelled due to Covid.
Brian’s solo shows are so good. People sharing their 2016 memories reminded me of seeing him 3 times that year promoting Painkillers and each show was great. A dream scenario would be if Brian and Butch toured together playing in each others bands.
I really like History Books (and Get Hurt) but at this point I prefer the solo albums to either, so I'm excited for this
I listened to painkillers recently for the first time in a bit and it’s up there with Brian’s best work! Excited for the next one with Butch involved again!
May be a bit of a hot take- but I think that Sleepwalkers is Brian’s best solo album (aside from “Proof of Life”). Everything else on that album hits though.
Yeah same, honestly. Best part of the album might be the 1-2 punch of Little Nightmares and the title track.
Oof that's hard I love all 3 of his solo albums for different reasons, but Sleepwalkers has come wander with me and Neptune...so yeah, great album
Sleepwalkers is the most comfortable and confident Brian has sounded to me on any recorded work he's done. It felt more natural and relaxed, like he was comfortable in his own skin in a way he isn't in other groups or styles. Get Hurt is still my favorite TGA album, but Sleepwalkers takes it for Brian solo work. I was thinking today on how good the bridge in Etta James is. Our boy really knows how to feel something and how to make it come across on the page/in the song. Hoping the next TGA album (assuming we get one) has a different production style/sound than we got with HB. I'd love something a little jazzier if Brian can talk the guys into it. Til then, I wait, I watch, I listen.
Sleepwalkers edged out Painkillers for me because I don’t really like Mojo Hand or the Painkillers version of Long Drives (Molly & The Zombies all the way). But my man really knows how to close an album though with Honey Magnolia/Open All Night and Watson/See You on the Other Side respectively. Edit: goddamn it I forgot that Mojo Hand is the penultimate track on Painkillers.
