The Gaslight Anthem have shared “Positive Charge,” their first new song in over nine years.

The Gaslight Anthem has shared “Positive Charge,” the first single on their own Rich Mahogany Recordings label, distributed via Thirty Tigers. Produced and mixed by GRAMMY® Award-winner Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Kurt Vile) at his Tarquin Studios in Connecticut, the gloriously optimistic track marks the band’s first new music together in almost a decade.

“‘Positive Charge’ began as a message of joy to ourselves and to our audience,” says The Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon. “The central theme is about looking at the things you’ve come through and feeling like you want to go ahead with an open heart toward the future, believing that the best years are not behind any of us and the good we have is worth something.”

The Gaslight Anthem will celebrate “Positive Charge” and their recent return to action with a spring headline tour, highlighted by the band’s first live shows in the Southern US since 2015. Dates begin May 1 at Houston, TX’s House of Blues and then continue through the month. Special guests include Oso Oso and Emily Wolfe on select dates.

The band has also just announced a series of Midwest and West Coast shows this September and October, kicking off with a festival appearance at Bourbon & Beyond in Louisville, KY. For full details and ticket information, please see www.thegaslightanthem.com.

In addition, The Gaslight Anthem is set for top-billed performances at a number of upcoming festivals, including Atlanta, GA’s Shaky Knees Music Festival (May 6), Washington, PA’s Four Chord Music Fest (August 13), and Louisville, KY’s Bourbon & Beyond (September 15). What’s more, The Gaslight Anthem will join fellow New Jersey natives The Original Misfits as special guests for an epic home-state show at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center on July 8, with additional support from Fear.

I woke up at 2am and listened to it in a sleepy haze, and felt disappointed for some reason. Now, it's exactly what I wanted from them in their return. Life is better when these guys are making music.

I really like it but after several listens I think it sounds more like Brian's solo work than TGA. I was really hoping for a single to come roaring out of the gate like "45" did 10 years ago.

That's a lovely accent you have. New Jersey?! Supporter

Man, I really love the melody for how this song ends! I love songs that end like this one does!

Eh it’s got really heavy parts, Alex shreds, and the drums are pounding. Sounds much more like TGA to me just with Brian singing more like the most recent solo stuff

The vocals are buried in the mix and sound rough, production wise. I wanted this to be better and sound more polished. Sounds like a b-side/demo.

Kind of agree with this take on the vocals. Surprised Brian gave the greenlight on this mix especially with the vocals in mind. Song itself is nice with that outro in particular. Definitely not roaring back on the scene with the strength of a "45" tho.

I have no complaints about this song, it’s good to have this band back

I can dig it. I starts strong and ends strong and I feel a lot of what Brian is saying here. Unfortunately there's some sort of layering or mix on his vocals that feels like chewing on aluminum foil.

Agree on the mixing but the song itself is good. As a guy who (blasphemous) may prefer Brian's solo work to even Gaslight stuff, this is a really good stylistic spin on their strongest parts. Will see how the rest of the record shapes up, but it's an encouraging start.

Production is not to my tastes but the song is good.

I like the production personally, very guitar heavy. Perhaps Alex is going to play a bigger role on the record overall?
