The survivor said they were aware of what happened before Ciaran left the band, they allowed him to continue touring even though they knew what he’d done. So this statement doesn’t change shit.
Uhh they kept him in the band and then took him on tour with Blink-182 before kicking him out. If they had kicked him out immediately and released a statement addressing his behavior at the time I personally wouldn't have any issue but the fact that they kept him in the band and gave no public statements until now (and didn't explain why they didn't kick him out immediately) rubs me the wrong way.
I grew up with and still have plenty of friends and some of them were/are shitty but like “get too drunk and jump through a table or fall asleep in the stairwell” shitty not “sexually assault someone” shitty. And if they were that kind of shitty I would absolutely stop being friends with them. *Re-sheaths keyboard*
I have never seen the phrase 'keyboard warrior' used in good faith; and while we're on the subject, this is a horseshit statement from a pair of lying scumbags who covered for their predatory then-bandmate with multiple allegations against him, and who should absolutely fuck off into the sun
who the fuck wants the police (assuming we’re talking usa/uk variation here) as the ones we’re looking to for figuring out accountability/justice/healing in situations like these?
Do you realize how often assault survivors who go to the police are not believed and how often assaulters and rapists actually are not convicted? There’s a reason going to the police is a bad idea.
They TOOK HIM OUT ON TOUR AFTER THEY KNEW HE HAD ASSAULTED SOMEONE. They willingly exposed their fans to someone they knew was a serious problem. They only forced him out once the heat became too strong. They’re cowards. They don’t give a shit about their fans. That’s their “character”.
I expected the statement to be too little too late if it ever came. What I didn’t expect was it to not even address the survivor and directly contradict their own statement about the timeline. So fucked.
It being sent 4 months late and on a freakin mailing list (on a Saturday) is ABSOLUTELY cowardly shit. Like seriously? Took 4 months to address it and you couldn’t even put it publicly on Twitter/FB? Not to mention the whole “Let’s ignore the survivor” part of the statement.
It is incredible to me that people still post they are fine openly supporting sexual assualt enablers/predators, like you don't need to wave the I'm a massive dumbass flag so feverishly
Discrediting sexual assault survivors deserves no temperature chilling, we keyboard warriors type with little to no patience for that shit
How is listing all the bands you loved and centering their crimes or the crimes they ignored around how that's been rough personally not super fucking tone deaf *at the least*?
The "I'm just trying to have a conversation" backpedal only holds validity when you don't begin with basically saying people against this bullshit are just whining and to move along - don't listen to the band. If you'd like productive pointers on at least appearing more empathetic online you can start with easing up on telling those who care to not care
Yeah if you want to learn more information about the situation and listen to other views you should not come in here saying shit like we should not be listening to TFB if we don't agree with how this was handled, condescending statements such as "If you've never had a shitty friend and been conflicted about it you probably didn't grow up with friends.", and saying that law enforcement should get involved in this situation.
How is calling you out for what you said bullying but you making a statement concluding that if we don't have shitty friends we "grew up with no friends" not bullying?
Cause you're calling me out after I already said I was wrong. I get my original language was aggressive so I'm sorry about that. I'll delete. I learned something. Peace.
