I'm aware it's stupid, but I feel like every time a band do shit like this, I think "oh but at least THIS *insert random member* would never do that to another human being." Every single time I am more let down. Sorry the victim went through that process of being ignored and even more sorry it happened in the first place. Also, how fucking hard is it to replace a fucking bassist in seven months lol? I went to that tour, I could have even done it lol.
There is no place for this shit and they don't deserve the platform that being in this band affords them. They need to address it as soon as possible.
Is it normal for them to be silent on social media for this long? (I did a quick look and it appears not). They haven't posted on any social media since the stories came out on Twitter and I'm wondering if their silence has anything to do with what has come out? It's oddly suspicious they are so silent now. They cannot stay silent forever if the silence is indeed related to what came out.
I don't think they really post at all, new album or upcoming stream. I don't do FB or Twitter, are fans at least asking for something? Or TFB fans defending them?
All I saw about people asking is that someone brought it up during one of their twitch streams and that comment was deleted and the person was banned or kicked out, whatever happens on twitch. I don't twitch so don't know.
They were posting regularly about the virtual champagne jam (December 4, December 9, December 10, December 11, December 17, December 19, and December 21 on Instagram) and prior to that every so often about various things, but now we are getting near month 2 of literally no social media updates from the band, which seems suspicious. The silence could be for other reasons, but I dunno, it's very strange timing that them going silent happened after more details came to light.
They had four months to respond to the allegations. They said they have always made sure the community surrounding their band is safe, despite bringing Ciaran on their UK tour with Blink-182 after the survivor came forward telling the band Ciaran sexually assaulted her, putting tons of people at risk to be harmed by him. So yes, they are very full of shit.
Wtf that’s so fucked. What took them so long, and if it was settled privately in 2017 how come the victim wasn’t aware?
like they did nothing to address the new statement by the victim at all. I wonder how many young fans Ciaran got to assault in his new band because TFB didn’t let anyone know about this back when it happened
Exactly. It takes two statements from the survivor (over two years since the first statement, and four months since the second) for them to publicly acknowledge that Ciaran is an abuser? So gross. And like you said, they don't even address the second statement. A clear statement back in 2019 saying Ciaran is out of the band (not everyone was clear on his status with the band, from posts I saw on social media), his behavior is not acceptable, and warning folks about his actions should have happened.
Also one more thing, I mentioned this in the accountability thread but they only sent that message/statement to their mailing list. It isn't on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram so a lot of people won't see it, which is...not good. Visibility is important when talking about a sexual assaulter.
