This is very good. Not as good as BOT or TOTH so far, but miles above GG and about level with the S/T for me. I really enjoy them doing more interesting things, GG was every single example of why Fueled By Ramen is the worst label out there. Every band becomes bland and boring. My one nitpick is that I find Everyone Blooms to be a bit safe and meh for an opener, it would be a better mid album song I think.
I haven't listened to this yet but but have been pretty meh on their last two albums. But was a huge fan of self titled and Talon and I guess their more "emo" stuff. As someone who hates their tracks like Bae, Trampoline, HELP, Camouflage - is there anything on here for me?
Finally hitting play on this! I've had Back on Top songs stuck in my head since I revisited a week or so ago
Jesus this album is good. Definitely feels like their most dense and a career record, like an amalgamation of everything they've done before but also kind of the antithesis of Back on Top. Only songs I didn't love on first listen were "Fairbanks, Alaska" and "bus beat." I can't wait to spend more time with this
Camouflage is the best on here on first listen, also was big on Leaf Pile and Montgomery Forever. I kinda do think I like GG more but we'll see how this plays on subsequent listens
I know everyone's talking about "leaf pile," but as far as songs I never expected them to make..."the hard part." whoever mentioned built to spill hit the nail on the head also feeling "love at first sight"
after four listen my official opinion: I would really love this album if it weren't for jerk. I find the chorus really annoying.
Yeah jerk is great. bus beat is really the only song I don’t love, but even that song has some great parts to it.
bus beat is one of my early favorites, but honestly the entire album is extremely cohesive. Not a bad song on here.
If you don't like an annoying sing a long song there's going to be a song or two that always annoys you on a FB cd. I love Jerk. I think the album is super cohesive as Kev said, flows really well together. Not a song I don't like and love at first sight, make way, the truth, hard way stick out for me. I'm getting out of the business of "comparing" albums with this band cause honestly I just pretty much like everything they put out. I think at the place in their careers it'd be easy to screw up where they're at, and they keep putting out bangers. Can't wait to continually spin this thing.
Does anyone else find the lyrics on this strangely and profoundly sad? Feelings of loss and regret seem to be everywhere, in the anthemic lighthearted moments.
it occurred to me today that the "But it was all to see Who could ride a motorcycle faster As for me, I still believe" part in leaf pile is from my favorite back on top demo: also, brian is married
I swore I read that also though, that his fiance broke up with him. Not sure where you and I got that from though...since it's apparently inaccurate.
I can’t stop listening to this thing. I kinda felt like I had outgrown the band to an extent. Could never really get into going grey, and haven’t listened to their back catalogue much the last couple years. This album is like they took the aspects of their sound I loved and doubled down. It’s just a lot of fun!
