2YL is such an absolute jam, but I would understand someone not loving the lyrics in the chorus or finding them too cheesy to overlook.
I couldn't agree with this more. I like Self-titled and Talon FAR more than I like the last two. EDIT: I'd even throw Rose EP above Back on Top and Going Grey too.
Everyone is probably one of my least favorites on the record. Peach is their worst song since self titled I think. Peace Sign is top 3 from this album for me Also here for the Back on Top love.
Talon of the Hawk The Front Bottoms=Going Grey Back On Top=Rose EP But I love BoT and Rose a ton, don't get me wrong. I wish they would release more of the grandma EPs because I'd like to listen to their older stuff more, but I'm too lazy to track down stuff that's not on Apple Music too often.
Don't hate me, but Back On Top wasn't my favorite. Going Grey is far superior, IMO. EDIT: Everyone But You is a jam.
Yep, we are on the same page. I thought Self Titled and Talon of the Hawk were universally considered their best albums. I am shocked everyone here is saying they prefer Back on Top and Going Grey.
peaked outside of the top 100 though, it's college radio, they're all different, but that just shows that's not the main target of most college radio stations
Yea I mean it's not the main target, but it also shows that they could squeeze their way in there with the right song. I see EBY doing better better than Peace Sign, so I think it could conceivably break into the 100.
Oh man did I not care for Talon of the Hawk. I still try every now and then but cannot get into it. Skeleton is fine and TSM is their best song, but once "you're my peach" comes on I stop what I'm doing and throw on Back on Top. Also, I'm on team Everyone But You. I can understand the anger those two opinions can stir.
Peach is the cheesiest song and I love it. Like, it's the exact right amount of cheese that would get you in high school, which is when I heard it, but not so much cheese that it gets moldy and you can no longer laugh at it. It's really wild that that song doesn't embarrass the hell out of me but here we are I still think this is easily their most boring album, but it has grown on me so I'm still hopeful
“I wanna confess it in a whisper That's just loud enough to make out” “I wanna be stronger than your dad was for your mom” Two amazing lines from them
Been trying to get into their older albums but for now I love Going Grey and think everything else is just ok
To sum up my thoughts and opinions: This is still their worst album. By quite some way. And yet it's still very enjoyable. You Used To Say (Holy Fuck), Bae, Don't Fill Up On Chips, Grand Finale, Everyone But You and The Ocean are all songs I really enjoy. 2YL is almost a top 5 TFB song, only beaten by Flashlight, HELP, Twin Sized Mattress, Tattooed Tears and Wolfman. Peach is pretty average. Everything I Own is fucking wicked. As are Funny You Should Ask and Lonestar (and obvs Tattooed Tears), if we are talking the second half of TOTH. Peace Sign fucking sucks and no one will ever stop me cringing at the awful lyrics.
This album is just so mediocre, no lasting impact or value for me at all. Like, not even a witty lyric which TFB are usually good for. At least if it were truly bad or I hated it I'd at least have some relationship to it, but instead it's just like... these songs exist, they're a thing ... OK.
Yeah I liked this but I bounced off it way quicker than any other TFB album to date. It's good, but I haven't listened in months.
