Wish the vinyl was here. This would've been a perfect night for it. Oh well I'll listen to Pinegrove instead.
Someone answered my wish! It was here for me when I woke up (but I also went and got the Brand New vinyl, so I'll have to save this for later tonight).
Definitely a grower, but I think this is about level with the S/T for me, behind the last two. Does have some cool songs though. Empty wine bottles in my room When I wake up I think of you
I love this more every time I hear it. Listened to the vinyl last night and the two hidden tracks were pretty cool. I kind of wonder if they were meant for the main album but FBR didn't want them, like the full nude album cover. Maybe I'm overthinking it though.
I've always hated this band. They were grating, his voice sucked and I couldn't relate. But this album rules. He's actually writing melodies and controlling his voice. The songs are rocking. I dig
Welcome to music post-mid 90s but within a decade it'll go the other way. With Youtube, Spotify, and other streaming services using algorithms to automatically level match there will be no need for labels to force engineers to sacrifice clean recordings for loudness to compete. All will be on an even playing field and mixes and masters won't rely on such heavy compression anymore. Just be patient the time is coming
This charted at No. 47 on the Billboard 200...which is worse than what Back on Top debuted at. Back on Top debuted at No. 32. Bummer.
A. I'd argue that when it's down in those numbers, that difference is actually not that huge. If those albums are all moving around 10k (I think Jason said this did about 9k), then differences of 100 can make a difference, plus it just depends on what else is charting that week. B. I really don't think first week sales are what matters for a band like the Front Bottoms, as much as the reception of the fans, and from what we've seen of these shows, the fans have had no problem latching on to this material. To have your crowds excited and singing to the songs from your new album within two weeks of release when you're not even playing the first big single is pretty cool. Of course a better sales week would be nice and I hope their next album lights up the charts, but I guess I'm just saying I don't think it's cause for concern. And yea it does seem like every big FBR release has under performed this year.
“Trampoline” and “Grand Finale” take the path of least resistance toward a sonic evolution by tacking on pitch-corrected vocals and puffy-paint synth leads; they end up sounding like demos for a "listens to Chvrches once" remix of what would otherwise be some of this band's least inspired writing. oof The Front Bottoms: Going Grey Album Review | Pitchfork
i just told someone a few days ago that i really like half of ian's articles and can't stand the other half this is definitely the half i can't stand. what a bad piece. i wouldn't have thought from the review he'd ever even listened to the band until the last paragraph
For people leaving asking about C-Dawg I saw a Y/T comment somewhere that said there was internal band tension and he didn't like their manager. Take that for what it's worth.
FBR hasn't updated their discography page on their website and the wikipedia discography hasn't been updated all year either FBR is in shambles and i hope that's just because of the management transition
Or FBR realized this album wasn't as good as the last one and didn't put much money behind it on purpose...
