Back on Top is an album I still play regularly, and this one might have to go back-to-back w/ it. Absolutely loving this one as well.
I feel like this album could really use a couple of faster-paced tracks (like Ginger or West Virginia).
Did someone say Holy Fuck was the band's best intro? It's easily my least favorite song on the album. I've only listened 3x through now so I'm hoping every song will be a grower but first impression is this easily my least favorite TFB release. Not bad, but nothing sticks out as much as their other albums. I also think BOT is notches below ST and Talon. Anyway, so far Grand Finale is my favorite song.
nah i've heard it, it's just that holy fuck is their best this is obviously my opinion, flashlight is cool
Finishing up my first full listen. I pretty immediately love it. I'll be listening to this a lot. I'm already feeling connected to several of the songs. I like that it's a little darker, but still as much fun as ever.
I like the album a lot but god it could do with another fast song or two. I hate 'Everyone But You' (semi pun intended). Lyrically I don't find the album as interesting or as exciting and innovative as stuff before this either. I loved Historic Cemetery and Grand Finale sounds in that vein, it's probably my favourite song on here with Vacation Town.
"Everyone but you" does annoy me a little. Which is unfortunate. It's literally just the production on the chorus....there's something when it kicks in that I just really dislike. That huge stadium wanna-be sounding vibe.....I just really think that song would've been great as a little, bare-bones, almost acoustic, song before heading into "Ocean". Instead they went for kind of a big, radio-rock anthem, sounding chorus and vibe. Definitely still liking this more than BoT. I think Talon reached more heights(and it has "Twin Sized Bed").....but I wasnt really into most of Talon. Overall, it's early to say, but this might end up being my 2nd favorite album by them(If we're not counting EPs)..... at worst 3rd. My favorite being the debut.
Yeah, I would've thought they lost it. That song is the most manufactured, unnatural, generic sounding thing....and to be coming from Front Bottoms is a shame. Just make it acoustic, lean into the quirkiness a little more.....just do like a live take of them goofing off playing it acoustically. It would even make "Ocean" feel bigger if the song before it was a chill, barebones, song.
Don't really get the hate for Everyone But You, it's a catchy lil song and I like it. Probably in the bottom three of the album but I think saying it sucks is a bit harsh
