Lyrics on this are kind of devastating at times. Hitting really hard in that relatable/conversational way that only this band does this well. Particularly in Grand Finale and Ocean.
Really into this which I didn't expect to be. Their debut is one of my favorite early 2010's records and I have a lot of great memories with this band but I've kinda grown away from them in the past few years. But yeah this is great
Unfortunately, this didn't really do much for me on first listen. I'll give it some more chances because I want to like it, but I thought the two singles were easily the best songs.
This is not what I was expecting them to do next at all. It's so different from their previous work. The 80s-influenced pop sound on a lot of these tracks is an interesting direction. This isn't immediately grabbing me like some other recent releases have, but I did enjoy it and I have a feeling the more I listen the more I'll start to love it. It just has this kind of infectious energy to it that I can see setting its hooks into me going forward.
The idea of feeling like an empty vacation town after the summer ends is such an interesting lyrical theme. I’m excited to spend more time with these lyrics.
Only had one listen and this isn't as immediate as Back On Top for me. Really enjoy Holy Fuck & Bae. Need a few more long drives to dig in
Didn’t do much for me on first listen, hoping it’ll grow on me like the singles did. Only songs that stood out were Peace Sign, Trampoline, and Ocean.
Is it just me or does Peace Sign sound just horribly compressed ? High quality Spotify stream sounds like a crappy leak.
I get what you mean about 'Grand Finale' but I think the GDP verse on 'Historic Cemetery' is what really causes that opinion. 'Grand Finale' is the full realisation of what they were aiming for on that song I think. I could gush about 'Grand Finale' forever.
I don't know if its an xylophone but the intro on "Everyone But You" will be in my noggin for a long damn time. Love the prechorus as well. That little bit of organ. god damn.
