"Historic Cemetery" is a personal favorite of mine "There was a sacrificial ritual inside my room last night Was held there in secret hard to see anything in the candle light Now there is melted wax all over my floor And the scent of incense is rising up from underneath the door Now maybe it was not as serious as I am making it sound Just you and me Getting high and hanging out Getting high and messing around Getting high, trying to figure it out"
Weirdly enough, the GDP verse is one of my favorite parts of Back on Top but the rest of the song falls a bit flat for me.
I disagree with so many of these Back on Top opinions. I really like Back on Top, but I'd easily place it behind Talon, S/T and Rose. Also, Historical Cemetery is a top 3-4 song on the album for me. Ginger and 2YL are my least favorites on the record. Opinions about this band are so wildly different between people, which is actually kind of cool.
Motorcycle is the worst song on Back On Top and it's not close Also, GDP's verse on Historic Cemetery is one of the best moments on the album
BOT is my personal favorite, by far, and I think a lot of it is due to the musical risks they take and boundaries of their sound that they push, both of which I think they succeed in and it leads to a really diverse album that still flows perfectly.
I can't rank their albums because no matter what it feels wrong to call one of them my least favorite. Ginger and 2YL are both so much fun, surprised how much people don't seem to like those. Summer Shandy is the only song on BOT that I could pass on. And I back Historic Cemetery. It's a pretty cool song and GDP's part is pretty cool.
"Motorcycle" through "Laugh Till I Cry" is such a solid front half to that record, just singalong after singalong
It's weird how I never really think of this band when someone asks me to make a list of artists to check out, but nearly every song they've put out is a jam. Low key became one of my favorites, crazy comparing their fanbase from when I saw them almost 7 years ago to now.
Also outside of a tiny show in NJ years ago I haven't seen these guys headline, just watched them do supports. Glad I'm fixing that in November.
Surprised at the Ginger hate* Both Historic Cemetary and Ginger are among my favourites, along with West Virginia and Plastic Flowers. *mild dislike
I am way less hyped than I should be for this. Time to listen to Back On Top and remember exactly why I love this band.
I feel like they've gone from one extreme to another promotion and build up wise. Back On Top had like 5 songs released before the album dropped and you couldn't avoid the album, whereas this feels super low key and I think half my friends don't even realise it's coming out this week.
Yeah, the hype for this album is far inferior to when Back on Top was released. I keep forgetting that the album is coming out this week AND that have tickets to the show in a few weeks.
