I absolutely love this band, the whole surf punk vibe they have is insane. Got into them through their new album (You Are Going To Hate This) since it was produced by FIDLAR'S Zac Carper. Anyone else into them?
The new track, Me And We And I, is such a jam. I have only causally listened to this band but that song in particular is really great.
I only recently learned about this band, am I crazy to think that You Are Going To Hate This and Hypochondriac sound like two different bands though??? Hypochondriac immediately reminded me of Motion City Soundtrack and I kinda assumed the band was made up of older (read: age of MCS members) fellows, but THEN I listened to YAGTHT and it really does remind me of FIDLAR-type stuff and the band sounds like teenagers. Maybe I am losing my mind haha, anyone else feel this way?
Listened to Hypochondriac just now, and I really really liked it. Interesting to see @irthesteve say they reminded him of MCS, because I literally cued up I Am the Movie when I was close to the end, so I'm with him on some level. But it was also partly because "Hold Me Down" is a phrase that will never not make me think of MCS, and once I think of MCS I want to listen to MCS. I was also getting strong Bayside vibes from the closer. But I still feel like the album felt fresh. it's not like a copy of those bands or anything, but you can tell the influence was there.
Just bumping this thread because I didn't realize they had a new album this year. Also noticing this thread never discussed their 2020 album either. I haven't heard the new one yet, but I'll pop back in after I listen. Purely an FYI for now!!
This band is really weird to me. Every single album sounds like it could be from a different band. I get that the 2020 one sounds how it does because it was originally planned to be a solo album and only two members of the band are on it, but then this 2023 one is not what I expected at all. Was kinda wishing to get something upbeat again but it's... not. WTF is I'm A Beatle? I don't know what to think about this band as a whole, it's all very odd to me
You've got "The Drummer's in Trouble", I guess? But yeah, their two most recent records are mostly laboured affairs. They're closer to something like a less distinctive Jack Johnson than The Matches. "I'm a Beatle" is terrible lol
