I’m curious if anyone here can shed more light on why The Format broke up in the first place. I don’t remember much past their statement that they wouldn’t be making a new album on their Adobe Flash website. Sam is credited as a writer on every single Aim & Ignite track, but didn’t play on the record itself. He also posted an old journal on IG before showing working titles for the original LP3 and they all link back to those fun. songs, so why wasn’t he a part of the band? I’ve never seen any indication that there was bad blood between him and Nate and if there was, they made up long ago because he did some art direction work on Nate’s solo album.
Steve, you get it. This quickly went from oh hey cool The Format is playing a couple shows to holy shit AOTY hype train. Never thought I'd see Nate back at it to this degree. Even if it is short lived it will be absolutely glorious.
Sam left the band, essentially touring was too much, the spotlight too big, and it wasn't what he wanted. Here's a link (tumblr haha) to a few quotes and articles: The Format’s breakup)
Wait, so they might be back back? That’s super cool. I always preferred fun. but definitely still very excited for new The Format music!
Show last night was amazing. Nate's energy was infectious. His voice sounded perfect- the band sounded great. He never said a single word about future plans, but clearly they exist. Man, the clip of Holy Roller also sounded amazing.
It’s wild to me that so many years went by, and the band still sounds like they’re in their prime. Can’t wait for show #2 tonight
Thanks so much for this. Very fascinating and goes to show how much time can change things as The Format may easily gain more spotlight in this new iteration than ever before. And on an Anthony Green solo track “Only Love” off Beautiful Things. Love that song. Saw some clips from last night and damn, Nate is really on one. Energy levels are peak.
The fact that we just got new records from MCS & TSL, YC drops next Fri, and now we're getting new stuff from The Format and TAI is so damn exciting!
idk how Nate fucking does it, I've only heard that clip two times and I've just been belting it randomly all day. it's in my brain instantly
Check out the band Another Michael. Not identical, but his voice definitely has some similarities to Nate's and the band's sound has some similiarities to The Format too:
Nate said at the end of the show “let’s do this again sometime real soon” more shows are definitely coming manifesting a tour with Joyce Manor
They were incredible tonight in NYC. It was only my second time at the Beacon, the other being when they opened there for Guster. Nate said they'd be back soon.
