Well techincally it was a year and a few months. Taste was the last place I saw them. Their Chicago trajectory was: Vic Theater -> Lolla -> Riviera/Elmhurst College back to back -> Taste of Chicago -> disappeared forever Their truly "big" shows in the area were really at Summerfest.
My wife was at that Summerfest show and says it was magical. They were playing one of the ground stages and probably should have played the amphitheater.
Yep, one of the most magic nights of my life not to be too corny. I say it all the time all over this site but that 18 months from their rise to the Taste of Chicago show will never be topped for me in terms of how special a music related thing is. This has always been my favorite video from that night:
Ah, you're right that was later. They did play Schuba's once early on too, and before they were really a band opened for Jack's Mannequin at Bottom Lounge.
I really wish it wasn't 18+. my 15 year old brother loves Nate and all his projects, but the Chicago show is 18+ sadly :(
Ah yes I did actually know that, but I was just going from my own experiences. They also opened once for Motion City at House of Blues when they were supporting My Dinosaur Life and I've always been gutted I wasn't there (I think it was like a weeknight and I also had never been to a concert in the city so wasn't allowed to go just yet).
I missed so many cool shows because driving up to Chicago from Bloomington was a very rare occasion in high school, and I pretty much only did it for Wonder Years shows in college.
I've convinced myself (didn't take a ton of convincing) that I need to go to this show, so see ya there Chicago folks (hopefully!)
i'm goin for the saturday nyc show when they go on sale. would just be nice to not have work right before the show
Going for the saturday NYC show also because I want to get there super early so I can be near the front. Do not want to be in the back for this. If I have to get Friday I may "work from home" that day.
tfw, approximately ten years after you fell in love with dog problems, you realize "pick me up" quotes a song by your new favorite band prefab sprout ("little green isaac / you're gonna walk backwards through the room")
