Saw this tour, too! Was at a college in MA- the college shut the show down midway through Something Corporate's set. Andrew was pissed! But yeah- my first intro to the Format- bought the I&L the next day at Newbury Comics.
Same, although it does technically stick to their album artworks’ other trend of humans/animals/etc that have faces that lack facial features. Hmm…
I went to college upstate and would travel to Rochester for shows..were you also at that venue in 2009 for Fun opening for Manchester Orchestra? I want to say I saw Steel Train there too around that timeframe but might have been a different venue.
It feels unbelievably good to hear Nate’s voice again in the year 2025. Love the song and am down with this direction. Can’t wait to hear the rest, and anxiously waiting new tour dates
Really stoked to see Nate back. Admittedly - I have always preferred fun. to The Format, but I'll take any type of Nate release these days.
fun song! nate's voice is really singular still. like, don't love it, but think most of my criticism comes from the implementation of the build-up. the intensity doesn't scale up and down quite where/how i expect it to and it leaves me feeling a bit disjointed. chorus def owns though and i personally like the big swing of the bridge. solid video too imo to add to the echo of 'i saw them when...', i never was hip to the format at the time but i saw fun as 1/4 for motion city soundtrack in 2009/2010 and play to basically an empty room (bands 2/3 were a rocket to the moon and sing it loud lmao). got my picture taken with nate and everything. what an insane show.
I’ve never seen Nate in any capacity (I will on Friday!) but The Format apparently opened up for The All-American Rejects in 2006 at the very first show I went to. I was 10 so I don’t remember them or if we were even there in time to see them
I've seen fun. a few times but I've never had the chance to see The Format since they broke up before I got into them. I hope they play a show here at some point.
I was there! I went to school in Vermont at the time and had just come home a day or two earlier. I think Water Street technically had two different spaces inside that went by different names?
Friday will be my seventh time seeing The Format and 19th time seeing Nate, woah 10/30/03 - The Hub at UCSB - Something Corporate, Rx Bandits, Mae and The Format 8/29/06 - House of Blues, Anahem - The Format, Anathallo, Rainer Maria, Street to Nowhere 8/31/06 - The Avalon - The Format, Anathallo, Rainer Maria, Street to Nowhere 6/14/07 - The Mayan - The Format 8/1/07 - The Avalon - The Format, The Honorary Title, Steel Train, Limbeck, Ruebens Accompice, Mike Birbiglia 9/26/07 - Aldrich Park at UCI - The Format, Melee
couldn't afford tickets to the NY shows when they were announced this time (I scraped and clawed my way to tickets in 2020) but at least I just started getting my grad stipend in time to get the LP and the hat
Only time I've seen Nate was right after the solo album came out at this corporate park in the Chicago suburbs. They usually have cover bands play on Saturday nights in the summer, but for some reason that year they got Matt Nathanson with Nate opening. Nate played about five songs, sitting down the whole time and looking pretty miserable, but he sounded great.
