No You Don't is the one that's been suck in my head today, mostly the grungy "Who are you to say" part
For some reason Shot In The Dark really clicked earlier this week finally. That bridge really is classic Format
Hearing Nate’s soaring vocals again is such a treat. That was definitely a more grungy album like everyone was saying. I get some Microwave vibes throughout this too. Right Where I Belong is an easy standout first time through, that is textbook Format, soooo good. I’ll need more listens to get full thoughts but I was smiling the whole time through
I'll shoot a shot - if anyone ordered from Hello and got a slipcase version that wants to swap for the signed flat, LMK. Was hoping the sleeve would be added to preorders but alas, no luck.
This is going to be on repeat for a while, so glad I held off listening to the singles so I could hear everything in context of the album. The opening guitar on Shot in the Dark sounds just like Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Back to Life also has such a strong Queen vibe between the piano and guitar solo. Forever is so good with that guitar and Nate's vocals together. The Human Nature intro sounds like it will break into Low Rider lol. Great album, so many little things I pick up each listen. Now I just need to find a way to finally see them live, something I never thought possible over the past 15+ years
I played this last night while we ate dinner and didn't dig most of it. I think I liked Forever and Depressed? Really did not like the opener. I tried to play the album earlier in the week and was so put off with it that I turned the album off. I'll try it again at some point.
i feel somewhat the same. it lacks what makes The Format unique to me. it's a fine record. i don't hate it. i'm just not drawn to it immediately like i was the others.
My first listen was also just “this is pretty good” but it has grown on me a lot throughout this past week. Really love No You Don’t and Human Nature a lot and the opener is a great table-setter.
I think It’s fairly commendable that none of the press has been focused on the fallout between Nate and Jack. The Washington Post article simply said he doesn’t talk to the other fun members (though I thought he’s done stuff in the past or has been seen with Dost). He seems to really focus everything on how much he hated the industry, loves being a dad and is happy to have made this album.
I still don’t really believe Jack and Nate are mortal enemies like people make them out to be. I think Jack wanted to climb the ladder of the music industry and Nate hated everything about doing that, so they just couldn’t keep working together. Idk wishful thinking maybe, but I like to believe they’re probably just indifferent to each other.
I wouldn’t even be that surprised if The Format was on one of Jack’s festivals or benefit shows in a year or two.
Interesting. I don't see this being a long term thing. I have always assumed this will be a brief reunion.
Me too at first, but I believe Nate said recently that he’s already itching to get back in the studio/writing more songs, or something to that effect
my record came and so did my hat!! i don’t understand how you take a sane photo of a hat you’re wearing
I don't listen to or collect vinyl, but the record was my ticket for entry to the show last weekend so I have an indie exclusive(?) vinyl that I'll probably sell if anyone here wants to buy it. You'll have to teach me how to ship vinyl though.... And I didn't get it signed because I found this frisbee in my garage last week and had them sign it instead.
