This is a “don’t listen to a goddamn thing until I have the time and space to sit down with my best headphones and listen uninterrupted” album. In short, I agree. Listening now for the first time.
I like this album but it’s completely unexpected. Definitely does not sound like a traditional Format project, which by no means is a bad thing - just completely kind of threw me for a loop. Much less poppy, much more…grungey? Regardless, I’m here for it. Standouts for me thus far are: Right Where I Belong Forever Holy Roller No You Don’t Boycott Heaven
Lola like they might have played a new song at the in store today??? And I mean new... Not on the album
The band’s interview and performance on World Cafe is pretty great. Nate learned to play guitar from Buckethead!
I love how just being bored and learning guitar entirely made Nate do a 180 and fall in love with music again. He is so inspired and I'm here for it.
after sitting with this a few times over the weekend I'm ready to take a stand and say...I really like it! bunch of earworms and enjoy the commitment to rocking. my first impression was it sounded more like fun. LP3 but that changed quickly.
Just got out of the Long Beach in store, they sounded so good. Only played new songs! Honestly love that they did that, for the real fans! Haha. Depressed, Shot in the Dark, Right Where I Belong, Boycott Heaven, Holy Roller, The Bar is Set So Low
The only thing I don’t like about “Shot In The Dark” is the pseudo stomp-clap-hey-ho stuff going on in the chorus.
sorry if someone has already said this, but that hard panned stereo OOOOH AHHHH TAKE A SHOT IN THE DARK in the chorus should have been shot down. The song is solid otherwise but lord that part sucks. I need to spend more time with the album overall, only given one full listen so far.
That little elevator music breakdown halfway through Depressed is one of my favorite parts of the album, but I can’t quite pinpoint what other song it reminds me of.
Forever is seared into my brain. "Ohhhh I feel that I am not like everyone" (or the variations of that line/melody) has just been playing on a loop nonstop since the first time I heard it
