It's been 10 days, y'all..

 

someone else should probably be in charge of this whole thing moving forward so we can actually do it. I honestly don't believe anything will ever happen like this and it's a shame when you actually have people who are interested in it and want to compete. not trying to be rude but I mean, just look at where we are with it. someone should do something about it

I could do it, but I feel bad taking this away from our flat tailed friend @Justice Beaver

 

it's not my call. I just want to see it happen and I want to see it succeed. no disrespect to @Justice Beaver at all, but we had a bunch of people involved in this with cooking and judging and even got Jason to put it on the front page (which was really cool of him) and then when we did it I saw a lot more people who wanted to participate and others who were reading it that otherwise wouldn't have. and to see that nothing is really going on with it now is just a shame imo.

 

I think the major problem was that at least six people said they would be competing and all but two flaked (myself included). Everyone had their reasons but I don't think direction had much to do with it

 

I do agree that we need to get this moving forward. I don't know if Justice is busy, but if we have enough people that are waiting and willing to do it, maybe we set it up so there's a rotating "leader" in charge each time, so it can get movin.

We do need people to stay committed to actually cooking their dish too, I know it's tough to find time, but if we maybe give a longer deadline, more people could find the time to finish.

I mean, I'm all for doing this again but we need to work out some of the issues with participation, which I'm guilty of as well. I mean it was like pulling teeth to get people to submit scores which I thought would be the easiest portion. Now that we have one under our belts it should, theoretically be easier.

I think we should probably agree to some community guidelines here. Like maybe we try to shoot for one on the 1st of the month and one on the 15th. There's also a matter of organizing how people want to vote for ingredients and who should be participating in that voting. Also, do we just do everything in this thread? Like if I say, okay we are starting on the 1st. Send me a PM to sign up are enough people going to see it?

 

And I'm all for being facilitator, and I think if I'm facilitating and writing all the stuff I probably shouldn't be competing since that's kinda a conflict of interest, haha. But I would like at least somebody else to want to help with the facilitating, collecting scores, doing write-ups, so that I can participate.

 

I'm happy to help you @Justice Beaver. I think the best way to do this is to make it Monthly. Have a week to pick ingredients, two weeks to compete and a week to judge... then we can announce a July winner or an August winner. No one is rushed and it allows for a lot of participation. We can have a thread for each monthly competition, where people can vote on the ingredients and everything else. Maybe that's too much. I'm not sure.

 

I think that's best. I'll make a thread for the month. For July we'll say ingredients need to be picked by the 7th. Anybody not participating in the cooking can vote for that. All contestants need to PM me before the end of day on the 7th to participate. We will give til Sunday the 23rd for the cooking and posting and results will be posted before the end of the month.

 

What should we call this thing?

 

I don't have any solutions but it would be a shame to not try to keep this thread going. Y'all know I'm shit at cooking so I'll never participate in that part but I 100% enjoyed seeing what @coleslawed and @BlueEyesBrewing came up with. There was so much thought put into both dishes. I enjoyed the write up by @Justice Beaver which I didn't expect but I should have bc of the write ups in the Food thread. This is an all-around joyful thing that I would hate to see fall by the wayside.

 

Maybe we should not rely on PMs so much? If you want to participate, shouldn't you just have to post in the thread before the 7th? That way it's less work for you @Justice Beaver...
