Agreed, think I'd definitely like to be more involved on next round.

 

I sent mine in earlier today.....USING FUCKING BULLETPOINTS AND BOLDED LETTERING AND I ADDED THAT SHIT AND PUT A TOTAL ON IT SO JB WOULDNT HAVE TO DO MATH.

 

It's hard to count with webbed feet.

Announcing the Winner of the Inaugural Food Thread Chopped Extravaganza.


Many entered.


Two survived.


@coleslawed and @BlueEyesBrewing fought valiantly, leaving all the other entrants in the dust. Many a Chopped hopeful saw their posts and threw away unopened jars of peanut butter and, in the case of @ChaseTx, let their shucked chickpeas wither and die for they knew they simply could not compete.


@coleslawed started things off strong with his “Tortilla Chip Wings with Peanut Sauce, and Edamame & Chickpea Salad.” No shortcuts in @coleslawed ’s kitchen, he made fucking tortilla chips and then pounded that shit into breading for wings. He’s like the MacGyver of wings. But our culinary tour didn’t just stop south of the border. Next he took a trip to Asia to make a staple in south-east Asian cuisine, the delicious peanut sauce. To cut all that richness he concocted a beautiful chickpea salad with edamame and… feta cheese. So a slight detour from the Asian flavors but damn if it didn’t look delicious. And look at that plating. That’s some professional chef shit.


Not to be outdone @BlueEyesBrewing followed up and look at that fucking mise en place. Despite never having chickpeas @BlueEyesBrewing used some ancient culinary instinct of his to roast them for some crunch. He masterfully added the crunchy chickpeas to the ingredients for a Vietnamese spring roll for a little added texture and flavor. Wrapping rice paper is a delicate as shit process but the outcome was beautiful. Plus all that shit with the peanut butter and tortilla crumble took some real ingenuity. Not only that, my dude cooked an additional meal for his family at the same damn time. And he ate a floor sandwich.


This competition came down to a difference of half a point. @BlueEyesBrewing barely edged out @coleslawed in Plating and Appearance and Use of the Secret Ingredient. The two were deadlocked in Online Presentation. But ultimately it was Originality that proved to be the determining factor.


So with a combined score of 22.3 out of 25 available points the first inaugural winner of the Food Thread’s Chopped competition or whatever we’re calling it is:

Congratulations to both contestants, but especially @coleslawed for bringing home the W! @BlueEyesBrewing also should be proud of his efforts... it was insanely close for me. You both had really great looking plates of food and excellent posts to go along with them. I look forward to dethroning @coleslawed in the next challenge. Thanks dood! Took a bit longer than I wanted but I wanted to make sure that the announcement felt at least a little special to both contestants since they did such a killer job.

You killed it! I just added some numbers together and wrote a silly post. You and @coleslawed are the real heroes. And some scary ass competition. Glad you had fun! Your technique and some of the lengths you went to to incorporate the ingredients was seriously astonishing.

Next time you should record your process and I'll dub over! But awesome job man. Your dish was crazy creative. And it looked awesome. I honestly might make that salad. What all was in it besides the edamame, chikpeas, and feta?


I have to just reiterate, because they both did such a killer job, this competition came down to the difference of half a point. Like .5 That's nuts and we have some serious ass talent in here.

 

This is seriously one of the best threads I've read since I joined ap.net 9 years ago. This made my day, congrats to both contestants and I look forward to the next round ! It inspired me to learn how to cook properly lol
