Figured there should be a place to talk about awesome guitarists, riffs, solos, etc. when the mood strikes.

    My all-time favorite solo:

    My dude Neil Giraldo.

My favorite solo of the last 10-ish years:

    The king Derek Trucks.

The main riff in In the Light by Zeppelin is one of Page’s absolute best. I’ve also been on a massive Pink Floyd kick and Not Now John has one of Gilmour’s more underrated solos in my opinion.

my favorite Page is the back to back of Dancing Days, which basically invented all of Josh Homme's tricks 20 years early, and D'yer Maker, which is about as pretty as I've heard guitars from that era. truly a man who can do both.

I’ll never forget the first time I heard this song, the main riff blew my 12 year old mind

Not sure if this is controversial, but I love Jimmy Page in the studio and have very little use for him live in anything I've heard.

Which is cool by me. I don't necessarily prize one skill set over the other.

I really need to check this album out. That riff is nasty. I LOVE Rising but haven't gone any further yet.

Kind boilerplate/basic take, but I can never get enough of his playing on "Highway Star". That man had the chops.

Long Live Rock’n’Roll is actually the only Rainbow album I’ve heard but it’s really fucking good. Blackmore could certainly play and man Dio had pipes.

Truly one of the most unheralded greats ever and gone while he was in his prime, Maury Muehleisen:

I think one of the reasons he doesn't get the respect his titanic talent deserved is because he was so relentlessly a song-first guitar player that a lot of people can't pick his work out in the layering with Croce's rhythm picking. It just sounds like this beautiful, layered bed of guitar.

Today's rainy day soundtracked by the great Laurindo Almeida:

I really need to get to his collaboration with Stan Getz soon.

he isn't nearly as virtuosic as a lot of the people posted in here, but watching the doc this weekend and binging the albums made me remember how much i love ad-rock's playing

Maybe he's a staple blues guy (I'm not very well versed in the genre yet), but I just heard of Scrapper Blackwell today completely randomly and sheeeee-it can he play:

Voodoo Child is my favorite guitar song ever. Dazed and Confused might be my favorite Page solo, but he rips quite a bit on the live version of “Heartbreaker” off How The West Was Won.

Baby’s On Fire by Brian Eno also has fantastic guitar work.

Then you have the classics.. Eruption by Van Halen, Crossroads by Cream, Machine Gun by Hendrix.

Also have to mention Money being my favorite Pink Floyd guitar solo and David Bowie’s Moonage Daydream’s cosmic bends.

This remains one of my favorites things written about Hendrix. I probably read it a half dozen times a year.

John Jennings is one of my favorite guitarists, but usually just for his really tasteful accent and song-centered playing (which this song also has), but his solos (especially the outro one) on this fuckin' kill, too:

Tony Iommi is a hell of a guitarist. Into the Void too? Master of Reality is such a cool fucking album.

It's insane to think there are whole genres based off of what he played on this album...and then he went on and kept searching and innovating on the next two records.

  24. Is it a cop out if I mention Protest The Hero's entire guitar work on Fortress?

Kind of weird how I can't stand the traditional soloing culture, with the famous guitarists that come with it, yet I listen to tons of technical stuff anyway.
