A man refuses all assistance from his daughter as he ages. As he tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality.

Didn't see a thread for this film (forgive me if I missed it!).

I saw it yesterday and it has not left me. My grandfather suffered from dementia and this movie just offered such a unique and heartbreaking look into dealing with something like that on all sides.

Not what I was expecting at all, damn this fucked me up. Hopkins earned it last night

    Maybe so, maybe not.

Man, that last scene done in the single take just absolutely ruined me.

I've seen some complaints that it can't escape the "constraints" of being based on a stage play, but I think that the production design, cinematography, and editing do more than enough to make that a moot and irrelevant point.

i watched four movies bc the awards that were stage to screen adaptations last weekend and this one definitely broke the form the most

For sure. Of all the stage-to-screen movies released in 2020, this was definitely the one that felt like it was meant to be a movie and not just an acting showcase.

Not the best but maybe my favorite of the best picture nominees.

Well that looks like a cry-er. Hans Zimmer scoring it is pretty cool

TIL: Zeller wants Isabelle Huppert for The Mother (and I guess she played her off-Broadway)

Sounds super triggering for anyone with mental health issues

Damn. "The Father" was so good and such a unique portrayal of mental illness/sundowning. Sucks that this isn't.
