The Starless Crown - James Rollins and The Empires Blades - Brian Staveley from @OwainGlyndwr I bought a signed edition of book 2 of Rollins whilst in London and the 2 of them go really well!
i've not actually read it yet (sorry) but i am working through my backlog and trying to be a better person (lol) so it should be up soon!
@Vivatoto gave me Beyond Redemption in 2021. @Garrett gave me The Long Walk in 2022. Beyond Redemption was phenomenal, absolutely loved it. I'm ashamed to say I haven't read The Long Walk yet. I'll make it a point to get to that this holiday season, I should have plenty of time.
While I am perfectly okay with not having book gifts be read immediately, I must insist that everyone read The Starless Crown as soon as possible haha. It's great. As long as some of you read it and book two before the third one comes out, I'll be happy. Would be fun to do a readalong.
Has anyone else read The Dagger and the Coin series by Daniel Abraham? I’m on book three and have been enjoying it for the most part except for on P.O.V character that is somewhat annoying for me to read so I’m trying to decide if I put it aside for now or keep powering through.
It's good. I was a little let down that it wasn't as good as his previous fantasy series The Long Price Quartet, which is utterly fantastic, but it definitely gets better as it goes along.
Alright I’ll stick with, and try and not jump into the page to slap the character that frustrates me.
I'll uh, post a list of all the books I already have that aren't reflected in my Goodreads list for the exchange lol
Finally reading An Altar on the Village Green by Nathan Hall and I can see why people recommend it to Souls players!
Have started Michael Miller's Songs of Chaos series with Ascendant. Seems typical dragon fantasy at the moment but i'm interested to see where it goes!
So I haven’t been reading much the last few years outside of manga and the occasional Star Wars High Republic book. But two of my friends begged me to read Fourth Wing recently and one lent me her copy. I was hesitant because the romance aspect isn’t really my thing. Just feel like it’s lame more times than not. Anyway, I ended up reading it in like one day and I’m pretty hooked. Lol. The dirty talk is definitely cringey as hell, but I was surprised but how much I enjoyed it despite that. My friend just finished the 2nd book and is going to drop it off to me tomorrow, so I’m looking forward to jumping back in. Just not looking forward to waiting for the following three books to eventually come out.
Glad you've managed to find something that you enjoy! I'll be honest and say that the romance side isn't my preference however if the story aside from that is well done then I can imagine it'd be a great book. My gf got me to read the ACOTAR series and whilst that was romance-heavy at points, the writing was easy enough and the story was pretty good so that was enough to keep me going. We all have our own preferences and shouldn't be made to feel bad if we enjoy one thing that might be "cringe". I know there's a lot of "hate" against Rebecca Yarros for these books not being "fantasy" enough but if you enjoy it then that's all that matters. I'll be reading Fourth Wing soon because my gf loved it and i'm curious.
Yeah it’s definitely an easy read. Some aspects were a little too predictable for me, but I’m not the type to knock something because of that. And I definitely don’t feel weird or bad about liking it, I was just shocked by how hooked I got on it, since it’s not something I’d typically go for. The one that lent me the book has been trying to get me to read ACOTAR for awhile, so that’s probably going to come up soon. I think I’m going to finally jump into the Red Rising Saga after I finish Iron Flame though. I’m hoping next year is finally the year I really go full gear back into reading again and tackle The Stormlight Archive.
Sometimes the easiest reads are the ones we get hooked on! I've yet to read Red Rising but it's had such rave reviews that I feel I have to get to that soon also. I know there will be a lot of Stormlight re-reads next year with SA5 coming in December so keep an eye out. We might even do one here if enough people get interested enough.
Oh yeah that would be awesome! Isn’t there supposed to be another Stormlight novella too? I also have all his secret project books, so I should probably get on those as well. Lol
As part of the Words of Radiance Kickstarter, it's rumoured that Horneater will be released also! The secret projects are some of his best work (in my opinion)!
